Sig P365 CA Model – Magazine Disconnect Removal Guide

As some of you know, I just snagged my first Sig P365. I'm in CA, so our P365's have to have a Magazine Disconnect Safety and Loaded Chamber Indicator (LCI). I don't really mind the LCI, but I don't want a mag disconnect safety on my P365, or any other pew for that matter. More potential failure points IMO.

I went ahead and made a video of this process to help those that may also want to do this.

Since I'm a Sig newb, I mistakenly called the Safety Takedown Lever the Trigger Bar, apologies there, but I think the video will still be helpful for those that would like to remove the Mag Disconnect Safety.

This was also my first time taking it apart in any way, so bear with me. All in all this took me about 30 minutes to fumble through the entire process beginning to end.

Summary:

Here's walk through how to remove the magazine disconnect safety from a California-compliant Sig P365. This safety feature prevents the trigger from being pulled unless a magazine is inserted. If you prefer your pistol to function without this restriction (e.g., for tactical reloads or emergency use), this step-by-step guide shows you exactly how to remove it.
Tools Needed:

• Small punch
• Needle-nose pliers
• Small Allen key (e.g., 0.050")
• Optional: clear plastic bag (to catch flying springs/detents)
• Patience

Instructions:

1. Clear the firearm and verify it's unloaded.
2. Remove the slide by locking it back and using the takedown lever.
3. Push up on the manual safety(if you have one) and remove the fire control unit (FCU).
4. Remove manual safety:
   • Push up on the slide catch.
   • Use a punch or tool to depress and carefully remove the safety detent (avoid losing the spring-loaded plunger, like I did).
   • Remove the safety lever.
5. Remove the Safety Takedown Lever* and then the trigger pin using a small Allen key or punch.
6. Remove the takedown lever by rotating it to the correct position.
7. Extract the trigger and disconnect safety assembly.
   • Be sure to also remove the small spring behind the trigger that’s part of the disconnect system.
8. Reassemble in reverse order(not quite as easy as I thought it would be):
   • Install trigger pin (ensure it’s fully seated).
   • Reinstall Safety Takedown Lever and trigger bar (round nub facing up).
   • Reinstall FCU into grip frame.
   • Reinsert rear pin and reattach the slide.
9. Function test the trigger without a magazine to confirm removal was successful.

Bonus Tip:

If you're working with small detents or springs, do it inside a clear plastic bag and use a parts tray. I lost the safety detent plunger—but luckily found it afterward.

If I remember correctly with regard to the safety you don't remove it completely. You are able to pull it out slightly. 2 AZone posted a video of it back when they first hit the market.

I was looking at it before doing the long disassembly process and you could likely get a dremel and cut some of it and remove it without having to take it all apart as well, BUT I didn't want to risk potentially cutting into other things since that area is relatively compact. Figured I'd take the time and remove it all the way, completely.

I thought of that too. I remember Them doing it where you pushed the Safety just far enough out to be able to remove the trigger bar.
