Does anyone remember Rustprufe? It’s my favorite bore cleaner and rust protector.

It’s the only thing that would keep my guns from developing surface rust when I lived I used it when I lived in the hot, humid swamp that is Houston TX.
And very little odor too.

I had been rationing my last bottle of it for 30 years. Could never find it in a gun shop anywhere. Figured they had gone out of business.

They sell jars of solvent, as well as solvent-soaked chamois wipes.

It’s also available on Amazon (but more expensive than ordering direct).

It seems to me that a cleaner AND a lubricant are two things that don’t belong together.

Will check it out. Seems like Iike a bore cleaner would be way too harsh for the gun overall, but I'll learn more looking at the product I'm sure.

It’s advertised for both. When I had to ration it, I only used it for the exterior as there are other good bore solvents. Now that I can get it again, I have started using it for the bore. It seems to do a good job at bore cleaning. Last weekend I used it to clean the bore of a pistol that I had only fired 25 shots through (since the last cleaning). But the patches kept coming out unusually black, one after another. It seems to have been getting at some deep seated gunk that my prior cleanings had missed.

For me, its ability to inhibit rusting alone makes it worthwhile. The bore cleaning is a bonus.

I was looking for a low odor cleaner (not clp) since we shoot often and have kids in the house. Tried a few and found breakthrough military grade solvent and I absolutely love it. Kinda spendy but well worth it imo.

What's the name of it? It's not called Breakthrough Military Grade Solvent is it?

Thanks! Hoppe's does own the M-Pro 7 cleaner which is effectively odorless so it seems they're thinking about this angle.

I thought I read somewhere that they are the same product now, Hoppe's elite and M-Pro 7. I use Hoppes Elite for general cleaning, Hoppes 9 for my pistol bores and Boretech for rifle bores. I still use slip 2000 ewl and slip 2000 ewl 30. 30 has a little higher viscosity and I use it on slide rails and in the slide rail grooves, and on bolts. The regular slip 2000 I use on all the other metal parts as a protectant.

Maybe all that is overthinking it but I have a process and stick to it.

You should get something formula matched to the polymer of the frame and then some matched to the metal of the slide.
I wonder if they make a special product for the magazine release and take down lever.

I figured a strong chemical for a bore cleaner may not be ideal for gun metal....or polymer. But you know, I'm a detail guy.
