I don't think this has changed since Dave split off years ago and I think they're still in a close relationship, but separate.

I've owned 4 Staccatos and currently own zero. They are nice guns but unless you are LEO they seem overpriced for the performance. I bought my Staccato P's in the low 3000's and sold them for the same. I compare most guns to my Shadow 2 which you can get for the low 2000's. After installing a pro package it's hard to beat an S2 for the price.

Yah, not sure what happened. I don't even see the mainspring housing offered at all on Staccato's website. Perhaps you're misremembering trying to order direct from Staccato? I've never had an issue ordering stuff from them in the past, even right after the AB implementation and as recently as late last week.

besides the XC what is the best staccato?

the HD 4.5 is the best "duty style" ~4.5 inch pistol they make, the sight block creates a much better recoil impulse, the extractor is better, the magazines are better and it's drop safe (we are talking about dooty). If you want a non compensated pistol for competition the XL is better, has more weight and a better trigger out of the box because that's literally what it's made for is range/competition and not "duty". If you want a compensated pistol the XC is better. The P is made obsolete by all of these other models for every use case. There's nothing wrong with it it's still a good gun but it doesn't excel in anything and has downsides in comparison.

I bought the mainspring direct from them. They had to order the magwell for me, so it cost me an additional $20.
I could have just bought another brand by now, frustrating

a LOT of people make magwells these days that will fit staccatos so you can definitely shop around. But yes it is indeed annoying.

I know, me neither. I ordered the extended mag release when it came out like a month ago, pretty sure that came straight off their website too.

they are probably talking about the full size, but the CGW pro kit is ~300 bucks and it's amazing. 2.5lb trigger with a 13lb hammer spring or even less with the 11lb, it's drop in and just works. 2011 triggers are more adjustable but require actual work to tune.

nice, there's definitely a lot you can do to the trigger if it's for a range gun, I've felt a very nice one under 3lbs with all of the safeties intact. Don't let the "series 80" haters talk

The trigger really isn’t that bad at all stock. Just swapping in either a RD or Infinity flat trigger helps with length of pull and consistent trigger pull pressure. I didn’t adjust the sear geometry or anything and it’s still sub 3.5 pounds with the stock safety plunger spring. You can keep it series 80 and change to a glock reduced power spring or something and remove some of the mush on the takeup as well.

My well tuned still series 80 carry C4X has a trigger almost as good as an Atlas I own that’s not the race sub 2 lb trigger option.

If you went ham with drilling for the pre travel, changing or removing the safety plunger spring, and installing the full ignition kit you could get it to be as good as most custom triggers short of the highest end smiths (just because the trigger is still drop in and not fit to the grip).

I don't know about any gunsmiths I just do all my own stuff, it's worth it to learn. This is a good video on the basics of how the HD trigger works and what this guy did. You don't necessarily need to change the trigger shoe, the shoe won't change how the trigger breaks. The shoe will however allow you to adjust the takeup and overtravel. The weight of the trigger is a function of the sear and hammer geometry, the sear spring weight, the hammer spring weight and the firing block spring weight. But you can switch out the firing block spring to a lighter one and fiddle with the sear spring and probably get it a lot better for like a 2 dollar spring and some time.

Yes and without needing to confirm your CADL.

After having tried both, I prefer the infinity trigger feel slightly to the red dirt, but it’s also just slightly longer for the same supposed size (F2 flat skeletonized RD vs small flat SVI).

The textured front face is nice, but only noticeable when dry firing or for zeroing for the more tactile feel. Red dirt has a thicker trigger bow than the infinity. Both are relatively drop in. Infinity trigger offers the ability to drill for pretravel adjustment if you wanted. I’d say they’re close enough that you just go with what looks best or works best for how you want your finger to interact with the shoe.

I actually ended up with 4 Shadow 2's. Shadow 2 Orange ported converted to SAO, two S2 Blue's (because I found a DEAL on one), and S2 Compact. All my S2's were sent to Cajun for pro packages but I've done 2 pro packs on P-01's and 1 on a 75 compact. I was very disappointed in the Orange until after the pro package. Don't remember the pricing.

I have a red dirt in a non-staccato and it's great, didn't require fitting and it's tight enough for me. I would however suggest NOT using the included red loctite for the overtravel /takeup screws
