Hi folks,

I'm trying to identify if there are any 1911s available to purchase in California that meet the following criteria:
- 9mm
- 4ish inch barrel
- around $1000 (used price okay)
- if comes in SS, that's great

Is there anything available on the roster that meets these criteria? I've searched here and looked around without much luck.

(this is a post asking for suggestions, not a Want-to-Buy classifieds ad - admin please let me know if this is in the wrong place or something).

You can either get 4" .45, or 3" or 5" 9mm. I'm not aware of any 4" 9mm that's on-roster :(. You'd need to look at PPTs for something off-roster, like a SA Ronin EMP.

Echoing previous post...

Springfield Arms EMP 9mm in 4" barrel. The 3" is more common, which is what I have. More accurate than me, great trigger, flawless unless you limp wrist it. Have had that happen to family that have limited firearms experience.

Thank you for the responses; it's as I suspected then - bummer California does not have more options here. Seems we have more 4" options for 2011s than 1911s. The EMP Ronin looks nice but I'm sure the off-roster premium makes it a silly choice.

If money were no object....

I would 100% recommend SA EMP! I actually have one and I love it!

You'd want to swap out the mainspring housing because CA ones come with the ILS (integrated locking system), garbage AF, you can get one from Smith & Alexander and your gun will be amazing!

If you search Gunbroker you can get them for a lot less. I bought a barely used one and paid $750 or so after shipping, DROS, FET. Just make sure you get the UPC code P19209LCA otherwise it's a no go for CA.

Here's what it looks like next to a g19 with a bit of extras done to it

Custom cerokote slide
Small bobtail cut
Crowned barrel
Also I have flush fit 10rd mags custom made before they made the OTS

Thank you guys very much for the photos and detailed responses. I'm surprised they are that affordable on GunBroker, I haven't seen them too cheap on here.

I'll give it some more thought. Was really hoping to get a little longer barrel, but having it be more compact may not be a bad thing...

@lavalamp117 You can grab a Kimber Pro Carry HD ii in 38 super and put a 9mm barrel in it. 4” 1911. And it’s on the roster!

The EMP 4” is better IMO, but the Kimber is a very viable option

Smith & Alexander sadly are no longer in business. Alan has closed shop

Thanks Contagion - this is a cool path and my favorite option so far; doing a little googling I see that Kimber offers a service to send the gun in and fit a new barrel. Probably a little costly for my taste but one of the few ways to achieve what I'm looking for.

It seems most people say it is not a DIY job; I'm no pistolsmith expert - is this something a local smith could do for a reasonable price?

100% something a local smith could achieve and I would recommend @willssmithing if you’re at all local! It really is the best option for what you’re looking to achieve. I’m a die hard 9mm 1911 guy and was looking down the same path you are, until I got on 2011s. If it wasn’t for 2011s I’d have the exact Kimber I recommended. Otherwise it’s the STI Tac 4.0 via PPT for the win

Look at the fusion xp pro, a bunch of stores selling it with the single shot exemption. Glock mag 2011.
