Suggestions on my first two firearms to get?

Hey everyone , just signed up and asking for suggestions on my first two firearms to get. So far I’ve decided on a g26 since I’ve had one before and maybe a 22?

Sounds like you've already decided on a G26. What would be the application?:Range-only training? CCW candidate? Some people love the G26 as a carry gun.

A great carry gun is the S&W Bodyguard 2.0, and there's also a compensated version. The P365 with aftermarket Radian Ramjet and Afterburner is a popular option too.

I think it's always good to have a .22 in the collection. I quite like the Ruger Mark IV 22/45 with a 1911 grip angle. The Browning Buckmark is good too, though I've never shot one personally. There are options to go very high-end here too.

For larger/heavier guns, my favorite is the CZ Tactical Sport 2 Orange. Not cheap, but a beautifully accurate and flat shooter.

Rost Martin is a great affordable option, honestly one of the best values we have in Cali. Glocks are also now harder to get here due to recent laws, so your only option for getting one is through private party, and at an increased price at that. My recommendation would be to visit a local range and see if you can rent a few options and see what you like. Most important thing is getting something you're comfortable with, because if you don't, you'll wind up never practicing with the thing.

Yes, I’m aware of the Glock laws and I was going to purchase through a private party but I’m holding back on it now since the echelon seems much nicer ..

Try renting an Echelon. Great bang for your buck. You can leave it stock, great shooter out of the box. Whatever size you get, back straps can be swapped out. Still too big? Still too small? You can change the grip module; OEM ones come in a few different colors. You can swap between full size or compact slides too. Found a good deal on an optic? Very good chance the versatile mounting system can mount that optic. You want to make it fancy? You've got options for some higher end metal grip modules. I took a buddy out for a couple of shooting days and he's settled on the Echelon as his first one. Mine is still relatively new, but I've got a little over 500 rounds, and not a single jam, has shot everything I've fed it. Seems reliable so far. Can be a good range toy or defense pistol, or both if left stock.

And on top of all that, it is a good looking firearm.

I love the look of it , did some research on it and it seems by far pretty solid and reliable. I like that I can make it smaller considering I have small hands.. thanks !

G26 is great. Feels solid in the hand, like a g19, get the pinky extension and it’s a great shooter and easily concealed. If you have very small hands there are smaller guns out there for sure.

Yes it is which is why I liked it but I want something more suitable for my small hands. And it’s pretty harsh to shoot as well.

I would suggest visiting a shooting range to rent and try out a few different pistols that fall within your budget.

You will find that bigger guns will be much easier to shoot, that doesn't necessarily mean the grip is larger though, the main difference between a glock 17 and a glock 26 is the grip length, they are both similar in circumference and both pretty blocky. The other nice thing about the echelon or others is they have adjustable backstraps so you can customize the fit. The echelon goes even further with the ability to change grip modules to a smaller size. But for a first gun get as long of a slide as possible because it will be much easier to shoot and to learn on.

+1 to the suggestions about renting first esp since you mentioned small hands and that the Glock felt harsh. Smaller guns usually recoil more so you might actually shoot a slightly larger 9mm better if the grip fits you right.

When you say "maybe a 22" do you mean a .22 LR for range use (like a Ruger 10/22), or a Glock 22? Most people here are assuming .22 LR, which makes sense as a second gun since it’s cheap to shoot and great for learning.

If that is the case and you have a G26, get the Advantage arms slide adapter (you can get them for $150-200 used). Cheaper and has hardly any recoil + cheaper rounds. Like having 2 guns in one and buys you more range time to form an opinion for your 2nd firearm.
With your $700 budget you’ll probably get more out of either one solid 9mm you can train with a lot w/ your .22 combo so you can afford ammo and practice. Fit and shootability matter more than brand so trying a few side-by-side will help a lot.

G26 is an amazing versatile firearm. You can go CCW but also have a full fixed grip/mag for HD w/ G17 or G19 magazines.

Glocks are by far the worst choice in California right now because they aren't optic ready and are overpriced and hard to find. M&P 2.0, Walther PDP and Echelon are all fantastic. Anyone suggesting you buy a Glock is pretty clueless.

New Glocks will be back on the roster this summer with optics. Been talking to my local gun store. Didn’t sound like he was speculating but knew something was in the works.

sure and at that point it may be a good suggestion, but I would still rather have any of those other three before a gen 6 glock, they have more and better features.

I love my Echelon 4.0C (non-comp). But be forewarned, the magazine disconnect will prevent the mag from dropping freely. You'll need to remove it if having the mag drop freely is important.

Interestingly enough, the M&P 2.0, at least the 10mm, despite the magazine disconnect, the magazine still flies out of the grip upon release. I read it's because of the stiff springs in the magazine.

Yea, it's specific to how they implemented the mag disconnect on this gun. My XDM 9mm 3.8" has one but it drops the mag freely.

Pretty sure you didn’t read the question the way it was intended, but back on topic.

Now that the OP gave a budget and their “need” more people can offer suggestions.

OP. I started on the Glock platform back in the day and I’m still a fan, but especially with price gouging right now you might want to really weigh out your options. Unless you plan on waiting till the summer and see if the new Glock models get approved for the roster.

Sig and Springfield both offer reasonably priced options that you can swap out grip modules easily if you want to customize or change the grip size. They also come optic ready. P365 prices have come way down. My buddy has a full sized Echellon coming in so after a range day with that I’ll decide if I want one.

A Ruger 10/22 is a fun plinker and you can change out the stock to your liking and the same with an optic/ scope.

I think a 9mm Glock should be first. I have two 34’s identically equipped. One is my bedside gun. The other is hidden elsewhere in my home.

Your second gun should be a 12 gauge shotgun with 00 buckshot.

After that, get what you want.

DO NOT GET A GLOCK 26

Get a Glock 17 or a 34, get a pistol light, and change the sights to some tritium 2 dot sights, or a blacked out rear sight with a fiber optic front sight.

Also, get a 16" AR with a mid length gas system
