Now that CalGuns is functioning as it should, I’m happy to have two gun forums. And I frequent both.

I wanted calguns to fail to a point where it forces Kes' hand to hire someone to fix it. We got to that point and now he's hired a professional to look after the site. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you get a harsh enough wakeup call and make a drastic change for the better. The most frustrating part of the calguns struggle was Kes' refusal to accept donations and professional help when it was obvious to everyone else that fixing the site was way beyond him.

I'm happy to see the site working again. We'll see if the brains return.

Too little too late. And the site looks like casino carpet. It's too hard to sift through things especially when you need them locally. I'd rather have everyone on one site, not two....

As for the market place, I don’t use it. I have what I want and I won’t be selling any. I just visit both sites to see what is being discussed. This keeps me occupied.

I've actually shifted a lot of my purchases to Tacswap and Ebay specially for parts. It's hard to beat the national inventory.

It worked better when mods were actively flagging posts without locations but at the current state it's really not usable if you are looking for a local deal.

That has long been a valid criticism of the Calguns marketplace. And it isn't really a thing that mods can fix - it really needs an application-like interface that does the policing before the post is allowed. Never tried to post here in the marketplace, but it seems some version of that solution has been applied.

For example, in the CGN Marketplace forums, there have been over 400 posts - not new threads/topics - in less than 48 hours, up to a few minutes ago. (over 700 in the prior week, excluding today) 'Ain't nobody got time for all dat!'

Proposals there were to have distinct geographical forums; there are 7 now, imagine just breaking it into NorCal CenCal SoCal - 21 in that config and getting 10 Californians to agree on the boundaries of those areas would be a miracle.

I don't think it's wrong to believe Xenforo is a better host for such things than vBulletin.

That's just the beginning step. There's a lot more too it that we've done here. The capability opens up but still quite a lot of customizations in order for it to work correctly. Even now it doesn't work that great here yet, but it's getting better.

Their classifieds section is a warzone. It’s super old school with no way to sort by caliber or region or type etc so you have to
Manually search and hope you get lucky or just scroll and scroll.

And half the postings are boomers bumping the same ad literally everyday for literally years that never sells at a crazy price so the clutter is unreal. It hurts my head to look at

On the main page search button I just type my city name. 98% of the search option come back to the Marketplace sales, makes it a little easier than just blindly scrolling a hundred plus pages

There are quite a few people that are dealing with exactly the same problem I am. I’ve been a member over there since 2007, I think I know how to use the site by now; even with the “Upgrades.”

It means scammers usually all have the same MO, these happen to overlap with people who want to hide what they do. So they go to great lengths to obscure things and then request access to classifieds and messaging.

Aren't classifieds open to everyone? My first post on this website was a classified listing I'm pretty sure. If classifieds are still open to brand new accounts then I'm just wondering how you determine who is and isn't able to view them.

If there's now a post/account age requirement for classifieds then nvm.

Yes, you didn't trigger the automated detection. We don't disclose how we determine that, we mention some things here and there, but we're not about to expose our recipe. We do a lot of things, so nothing you have to worry about if you're not affected.

Definitely enjoy the experience here more; more functionality for the marketplace and the user base is less cantankerous.
