Thinning my herd of Firearms, but it didn't go as planned

So after much thought, I made a decision to sell off a lot of my firearms this year and really bring them down to a select few.

It did NOT go as planned.

A number of visits to the FFL to do the DROS to sell one or a couple of firearms, resulted in coming out of it with more firearms than I sold.

Reasons:

1) New Firearms on roster looked cheap compared to their former off-roster prices.
2) 1 in 30 rule has been deleted. We have to take our new freedom for a spin
2) More new firearms on roster that were not in stock, but only $100 will hold it
3) Dealer was having an Excise Tax delete for that weekend ONLY
4) I went back the next day before #3 above expired
5) The next weekend I made sure I didn't go back the next day, coz I should combine multiple purchases into 1 DROS to save $37
6) What the hell, my plan has gone to sh*t, might as well buy another one
7) Lifting of ammo restrictions came at a good time. Online buying frenzy is easier than going to the store.

I am usually a disciplined person in most of life things. Keyword: usually.

Oh well, maybe I will try to thin the herd again next year, I hope to do better.

In the meantime I'll be at the range a lot. It would be shame not to put these to proper use.

Yeah, it took me a long, long time to be able to resist doing this over, and over again.

But honestly, you're never fully cured. But at least now if I impulse buy a firearm its only one at time. Its a lifelong process.

Yep. I went to sell in a PPT and came out of the store with couple C&R and pack of stripped lowers.

Be careful. The Shield Plus happened to be the first gun I DROS'd in my recent new-on-the-roster buying frenzy. It was all the Shield's fault

I had a Shield 1.0 that I meant for my CCW but turned out mods aren't allowed. At that point it was too late and I had changed the trigger. Ended up selling the gun. But it was the gun I shot best with out of the 3 that initially went on my license. I may consider the Plus once renewal approaches.

Haha, that's a hilarious story, OP. So true. It's basically counterproductive to sell a gun these days because you see something you've always wanted, and you got cash in hand from the gun you just sold.

Luckily, I haven't been too tempted to buy any of the new stuff, but I know it's only a matter of time before I relapse. Once the PDPs are on the shelves, I'll find myself in the shop checking them out. Especially if there is a "tax holiday" type sale or mag promo.

really? weird. I find this site very easy to use.

but yeah. somehow I "thin the herd" and end up at best neutral at worst with more than I started

Was going to slim down my safe, down to 1 - 2 rifles and 2 - 4 handguns.

Sold 1 AR, picked up an WASR 10/63..

Sold 1 handgun, picked 2 more on an impulse buy before the sin tax kicked in.

Sold 1 more handgun and have been in the clear so far... but I'm itching like Dave Chappelle's Tyrone Biggums skit to get another now.

Doesn't help that Turners just sent me their flyer in the mail and they claim to have Glock 20c (no longer in production) in stock in "limited availability".

This site seems to work fine for me, but the few items I tried to sell on calguns and even on gunsamerica went nowhere. It’s just hard to take a loss on perfectly good firearms.

And the problem is?? This is standard operating procedure for most of us gun enthusiasts. The next time it crosses your mind to thin the herd just go out and buy yourself a bigger safe and that should solve your problem
