This is how AB1127 is being celebrated

In all seriousness, it's much easier to sell "ban machineguns" than "gen 3 glocks are only here because of the roster and ackshually the gen 5s can't even take a glock switch so you should call your state senator and tell them to vote no because then we can keep our gen 3 glocks and still not have the safer gen 5s"
This 100%. I'm a relatively new gun owner, I'm humble enough to admit that I wasn't always as open to guns as I am now, but there's a serious lack of information on the other side about what our current gun laws are. Once I tell them about the roster, the LEO and PPT exceptions, their minds are blown. Specifically, their minds are blown by how antithetical to their own beliefs about fairness these gun laws are. I didn't know any of this stuff until I started researching how to buy a gun. I'm sure they're all pretty annoyed with how often I share this kind of info with them now, but if I didn't, they literally wouldn't know.

Sloganeering results in people rolling their eyes, I agree; totally useless.
But presenting reams of data to an otherwise uninterested person is just as ineffective. They'll probably just be more polite at rejecting your information. There's a business and marketing axiom that claims an eight second window of opportunity to hold someone's attention. Our pro-2A messaging isn't immune to basic human psychology and those same attention span limitations in normal interactions. The challenge is getting someone to think just enough about something to make them go find the deeper answers themselves. When people feel like they're being led to someone else's conclusion, they put up resistance. I know I do. All the time.

Other social movements have done that well. The 2A community has never been good with PR messaging though.

This is all probably better contained in a dedicated thread though. I don't want to send this one off-topic anymore than it is.
I agree. but at the basis of a good argument is a meaningful concept, the data doesn't have to be presented in full it's more about having a valid concept at the core. Also, there's several audiences, the public is one but if you are lobbying that's a whole other basket of fries

That pretty much sums it up. Also, if you don't vote you don't have any room to motherless 🐐 about anything that comes your way from elected politicians. And if you vote for the people that want to abrogate your second amendment constitutional rights, you have no right to motherless 🐐 about that either. You voted for it so enjoy it.

It's not always that simple. Plenty of people I've voted for over the last four decades have in some way "abrogated" some thing, to some degree in spite of indicating otherwise. Some times it's merely softening on an issue. Other times it's a stark 180 degree turn. When David Roberti and Mike Roos were hammering out details of their competing AWB bills, plenty of Republicans were striking the compromises that eventually won out for the latter, as Roberti's senate bill was too strict since it resembled what would eventually become SB23 a decade later. Deukmejian (who I voted for) happily signed that with little criticism coming from his party, including "Bill" Richardson of GOC/GOA fame who had been coat-tailing the then governor as he termed out of the state senate.

Meanwhile, people like uber-liberal Carol Silver had vehemently opposed prop 15 just prior to the AWB nonsense, while GOP fat cat sheriffs brass were the base of support. And people like Rod Wright, a Democrat, spearheaded the effort to make sure people like *me* didn't become overnight felons because of Dan Lundgren's bungled handling of SKS rifle registrations years after the RR AWB. Had I lived in the areas represented for any office of either of those two, I likely would not have voted for them because tHey ArEN't ThE pARtY of Teh 2A!!!!

As for that old chestnut, "if you don't vote, you can't complain", we're being asked in a special election right now if we're cool with rigging the districts, thus rigging the vote and bringing back things like the ribbon of shame which we decided ten years ago was a really terrible thing. If prop 50 passes, I wouldn't blame anyone for never voting again because what's the point if the game can be rigged so easily?

tl;dr - There is no such thing as a pro-2A vote.

Someone posting on a gun website should certainly appreciate that when it comes to gerrymandering, California has decided it will no longer be bringing a knife to a gunfight. When the far right, authoritarianism supporting states gerrymander the 💩 out of their districts, why should the patriotic, democracy loving states like California just allow the lawless thugs to crap all over the nation?

If you call the tune, eventually you're gonna have to pay the piper.

This stood out to me:

💪
Nearly 135,000 messages and 2,400 calls were made by supporters to push this bill forward.

💪
Volunteers and survivors showed up at the Capitol and across the state to demand action—and it worked.

They have an effective, focused campaign to drive these bills with thousands willing to engage and take action. I haven't seen the same kind of energy from the 2A community. I'm wondering why that is?
I can tell you why that is.

We are in a state dominated by single party rule, and every one of those legislators hates you and anything to do with firearms. And no matter how asinine the law, and how well reasoned our response may be in addressing the lunacy of their laws, they will ignore you.

Our begging and pleading serves to arouse in them the desire to create more nonsensical laws that will only affect us. They know that and don’t care.

Think of it this way - if you were in their place, and they were asking you to enact antigun legislation against your own interests, would you? Of course you wouldn’t. You would laugh at them as they have laughed at us.

They are evil vindictive pricks. And anyone who doubts that need only look to California’s response to the Bruen decision.

And one of the most confounding things you’ll ever encounter is that many of the posters on this very forum have contributed to the tyranny we suffer daily by casting ballots for Gavin and his merry band of antigun zealots.

Because it's a giant race to the bottom when we do the same things we cast criticism on others for doing. When Texas went after abortion, California, at Newsom's, command went after guns in a tit-for-tat attempt to show them up. This is round two of "let's fight with Texas!". That's not leadership. That's preschooler behavior.

And this state *was* terribly gerrymandered forever, which was why it took countless attempts to finally rectify it.

A liberal friend of mine posted this on Facebook. This is how they are celebrating AB 1127 and what they believe it accomplishes.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America

📢
HISTORY MADE IN CALIFORNIA: Thanks to the tireless efforts of our volunteers, survivors, gun sense champions in the legislature, and Governor Gavin Newsom, California just made history by enacting AB 1127—a first-of-its-kind law to take on DIY machine guns.

These dangerous weapons, often created by converting pistols with illegal switches, have no place in our communities. With AB 1127, California is fixing a deadly problem that the gun industry has ignored for too long.

This victory was powered by the grassroots:

We’re especially proud of Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel and Catherine Stefani—a former Moms Demand Action volunteer—who introduced the bill, and all those who had the courage to lead on this critical legislation. You chose public safety over industry pressure. You showed that protecting our families comes first.

And to Governor Gavin Newsom—thank you for your leadership in signing AB 1127 into law and making sure California remains the national leader in gun violence prevention.

You really think calls and messages in support were needed or that calls and messages against this bill would have made in difference to the democratic super majority? The only chance the 2A has in California is to vote accordingly and hope for politicians that can make a difference and also to change the ninth circuit!
