Toyota truck issue/ lemon law advice?

Yeah sorry dude I purposely bought a TRD off road in 23 because of the engine swap out wanted the V6 and turns out the 24 4cyl turbo sucks .....depending where you live if it's convenient go shopping in TJ and leave it and take the Amtrak home.

I traded in my 2022 Tacoma for a 2026 Tacoma, the new Tacomas are better than the 3rd gens. Also, the Tacomas are not having engine issues.

So I do not have an engine issue so far as I know. But the recall went from machining debris to Toyota saying it’s a design flaw and new motor. I don’t mind driving it until Toyota buys it back but they keep moving the goal posts. It’s a pain in the ass to try to find a new truck to replace this truck and keep trying to thread the needle of like sell my truck one week and have something on deck to to buy, because it keeps getting moved.

Plus I’m frankly kind of spooked now that Toyota has foreshadowed, after admitting a design defect and need to recall and replace all these motors, that maybeeeee there’s not a defect and they’ll use a special microphone to listen to your motor and tell if you have the defect or not. Again - like I said before in this thread the biggest issue is I have this truck that has plummeted in value due to this motor defect. I hope they buy it back on 10/21. If that doesn’t happen and they move the goalpost for the third time I’ll hire an attorney

Gotcha, I would ride it out until the buy back or the engine fails. As your options are honestly all kind of for full-size trucks now.

I sat through jury selection for a Toyota lemon lawsuit. A gentleman was suing Toyota Corporation and the local dealer. My background is in electronics purchasing. The first lawyer to ask questions was polite, 2nd lawyer was a lot harsher. I ended up telling him, I was the buyer, I wasn't the engineer that decided if the part was good or not. We would send parts back to the manufacturer if it didn't work in the product we were producing.
From what I gathered thru the question process, it was a part that was faulty. I was dismissed from jury duty. I did find out that guy suing received $40,000 for the truck. Not enough to buy a new one

Mine was first year, 2007. It doesn't have all the computer electronics that cause problems. Only issue was an emissions module that failed. Otherwise, perfect. It does have a lot of aftermarket stuff, lift, 35" tires, G2 gears, front stabilizer disconnects, limited slip rear end, oil cooler, Banks air intakes, Kenwood/Polk stereo etc.

was that the v6 3.6l? if so you might want to check on your oil cooler. The oil cooler is located underneath the intake manifold. It leaks oil, and causes the sensor to go bad. I can't recall who makes a full metal version, but we would replace it with that one. Also, the other problem with the 3.6l is a cylinder will go bad. When I worked at a indy shop, we were contracted by the dealership and worked on all manufactures

I had a large aftermarket oil cooler mounted in front of the radiator. It overheated once on the 13,110 foot Imogene pass out of Telluride. Runs very cool now.

Engine is the original 3.7 liter. Known to burn oil, mine doesn't, probably because the oil runs cooler. I use Royal Purple in the engine and gears. Runs and looks new after 19 years.

I like Jeeps but when there was some sort of shaking issue with the steering a while ago I hesitated. What year did that start and did Jeep fix it?

are you talking about the death wobble? never did, but it is usually caused by worn suspension components

I've been through a few lemon law cases myself, it's not expensive. The lemon attorney takes the money from Toyota or whomever the dealer is. When you purchased the truck In 2024, when did you first have the issue, or bad motor? That's technically when date of issue starts. Have all your invoices in hand from service. do you have anything in writing from they saying it would be a while because of backorder? 90 days is all you need and this is a slam dunk case for you. you'll get all your money back. That was an issue with older, smaller Wranglers with large tires and 4" lifts due to the short wheelbase. The JK/JKU don't have that issue. Mine has a 2.5" lift via springs and 35" tires. Wheels went from 16 to 17". That stopped the left/right movement on sharp turns. Bilsten shocks give it a smooth ride.

Patience, young grasshopper.

You're driving around in a truck that you like. In a few months, they're going to buy it back from you for what you paid. In essence, you're driving around in a truck that you won't have to pay for. Driving a free truck for two and a half years seems like a sweet deal. Every day Toyota delays is another day you drive for free.

Maybe they'll come up with a new engine before the deadline. If that's the case, then you get a fresh new engine in your truck. You will have put all these miles on the engine for free. You've extended the life of your truck by two and a half years.

I didn’t go with a lemon law lawyer.
It’s when your truck or car needs major repair. When they first enter it in as having issues that later needs a major repair.

It is like driving a vehicle for free unlimited miles.
Though once I initiated buy back I didn’t drive it because I was afraid someone would crash into it or damage it between that time. Especially during that time a lot of people speeding around. You have to take pictures of the vehicle and one interior. Then they look over it before paying at the dealership.

This is a good law for people.
