Harris absolutely wasn't. She sat on her ass for 3 ¾ years doing jack . And if we're being intellectually honest, she only got the job because she ticked boxes, by Biden's own words. She was terrible at and lied about everything she ever did here, and when asked to choose someone 5 years ago, she was what, 6th in the race? No one wanted her then. No one wants her now.

I'll go one step further. Trump will be a harbinger of 8 years of "president newscum" if he's not careful.

How, you ask? Because we're a bunch of reactionary chimpanzees. Once things go wonky, we run screeching in the other direction. Who's almost exactly like orange idiot, just in the other direction? Newscum. 4 years of Harris would have shown the country what we all already know: California-style politics ruin everything it touches, and consequently newscum would never see the Oval. But now? Unless his worst instincts are tamped down and curtailed, trump will be rolling out the red carpet for that greasy son-of-a-motherless .

I hope, with everything in me, I'm wrong.

That is my biggest concern with Republicans controlling all three branches thinking they have mandate to reshape America into the 1950s (not the good aspects of the 50s.) They could end up handing the country over on a silver platter to Newsom. We cant keep whiplashing from one extreme to the other.

Another concern is that Republicans embarrass themselves fighting each and reducing everything down to a pissing contest about who is a "real" conservative. They do not have a good track record.

The second the orange idiot takes the oath, and get replaced by solid, Constitutional scholars in their, like, early 40's at most, while any picks can't be roadblocked by the house or senate. Don't "ginsburg" this one, old dudes. Make way for the new guard before it's too late.

What would be nice is some F-ing normalcy for a change.

I don't want "revenge", I want a reckoning. A realization that pandering to the extremes is a recipe for failure. I want every goddamned election we have to stop going from guardrail to guardrail like a runaway semi truck. Why the hell can't we cruise down the middle? A uniparty rule is going to be terrible (ask Californians how that feels), and historically we'll likely see it come crashing down in 2 years. What I want are checks and balances. What I want is an end to this extreme tribalism bull. You're not my mortal enemy because your political spirit animal differs from mine.

No election in my lifetime has been "rigged", it's too easy to manipulate the stupid to bother rigging anything. I want an end to gerrymandering and constant redistricting, I want an end to certain entitlement programs that amount to buying votes.

I know we're probably seeing the beginning of the death throes of our grand republic. But maybe, if we're careful, we can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and turn this ship around. Is the orange idiot a good start? Probably not, but Vance is. Let's hope he gets the reigns and shows us a better way forward, because dude, we absolutely can't keep going forward the way we have been.

Yours is far and away the most reasonable take I’ve read on the subject. Somehow, some way, we need to take it upon ourselves to start to bridge the divide. I know way too many good people on both sides of the political aisle to be willing to just blanket disregard an entire segment of the population due to a few differences in ideology. Extremists are a whole different story, but I would venture to say that deep down, the vast majority of us are much more similar to each other than we might realize or be willing to admit.

Yet, he did not get to where he is, or log the accomplishments he has achieved historically, by being an idiot.

Now he's done a lot of uncouth things, said even worse, acted out impulsively and in error, tells bad jokes, he's absolutely been crass and executed actions without tact, has had nearly as many missteps with business and money as he has had successes (just like many other entrepreneurs, investors, and developers) and like any other person he certainly has faults.

However, when you really, really read up on his history, bio, and dive into his accomplishments, actions, achievements, and persistence - he certainly is not an 'idiot'.

Just the fact that he pulled off what he did, which is nothing short of amazing, even miraculous, hardly relegates him to the subspecies class of 'idiot'.

We'll agree to disagree, because in the modern sense of the word, the man is absolutely an idiot. I've been aware of him, his (mis)deeds and his many, many failings for decades. I don't need to "read up", I've known. That leopard hasn't changed his spots, buddy.

The man doesn't "frustrate" me, the people who blindly follow him and excuse (or make excuses for) every stupid thing he says and does, they frustrate me. Because if people who idolize him would dare to pull back the curtain on the "great and powerful oz", people would see he's just a man, a foolish, impetuous, ignorant, and extremely flawed man.

All that being said, I'm aware of what things he did "accomplish". I'm also just as aware of things he failed to accomplish, the things he utterly failed on, the things he promised and never delivered. The things he backtracked on. The things he made demonstrably worse. Are you? Purely rhetorical question, I'm not trying to debate you.

It's my firm belief that he "pulled off" what he did, because much like in 2016, his opposition ran an utterly unelectable and detestable human, one the people didn't even choose this time, and he capitalized on a truly inept and impotent administration, headed by a half-dead vegetable who couldn't string together a single coherent sentence. And an administration that ran our economy into the dirt by focusing (and spending) on that didn't resonate with the majority of voters.
