Voting... Will We Be Able To?

Here's some information from SoS of CA website. I don't think it's as black and white as you claim.

Per: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration

Qualifications to Register to Vote

To register to vote in California, you must be:
  1. A United States citizen and a resident of California (for information on voters in the military or overseas, please see Military and Overseas Voters),
  2. 18 years old or older on Election Day,
  3. Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony (for more information, please see Voting Rights Restored: Persons with a Prior Felony Conviction), and
  4. Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court (for more information, please see Voting Rights: Persons Subject to Conservatorship).
Further:

Voter Registration Identification Requirements

You must provide:

  • A California Driver's License or state ID number, or
  • The last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN) (if you do not have a CA ID).
If you don't have either, you can still register. You'll be assigned a unique identifier to validate your registration.

Note: To get a CA DL, you DO NOT need to provide proof of citizenship. To get an SSN you do. So a non-citizen could use a DL to register.

So to REGISTER to vote, pretty much anyone can. The question is whether or not they get their vote counted if their qualifying credentials are invalid. I'm not sure what this "validate your registration" means here, especially if you succeed in receiving a mail-in ballot from submitting online, there's no polling place where you have to verify yourself if you didn't present the identification requirements as far as I can tell, so the onus is on the ballot processing to catch it.

Overall it seems possible to register to vote if you're not a citizen, you can get a mail-in ballot I would argue if you don't have the proper requirements, and it looks like you can even mail in a ballot if you wanted too. There should be checks and validations on the other end to prevent the vote from counting, but clearly it looks like it can and does, to some degree, get through.

I'm a starch proponent for mail-in voting and frictionless voting options but to me, it also seems we have some gaps that can allow bad actors or mistakes to occur, which regardless of your position, is not good for the integraty of the voting system. Threats of breaking the law don't seem enough to me either.

I was typing my response to the other posts while you were posting pretty much the same thing. I wasn't replying to you.

If you haven't completed the ID requirements, then you mail-in ballot will not be counted. The return envelope has a bar code that identifies it, and it will be set aside until you have a chance to "cure" your incomplete registration.

I'm confused. I registered to vote when I got my driver's license a few decades ago and I checked again when I got my REAL ID recently. I need to do more stuff to vote in this coming election?

No. If you are registered from before, you are good. But if you want to check, here is where you can check your status. It never hurts to check, right? https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/

You must PROVIDE the CA DL number and last 4 digits of the SSN when you register. If you don't, then you get a unique identifier that officials will either validate through other records, or you will be required to SHOW the docs at the polls, or before your ballot is counted. So you may be right that you do not need to SHOW them to register, if that's what you mean, but you do need to PROVIDE them, or your vote will not be counted. And as long as you have PROVIDED them when you registered, you do not need to SHOW them at the polls. I'm not sure if we are miscommunicating based on the exact words or what. And I'm not getting what kind of fraud you guys think is happening. Is it that you think someone is registering to vote using someone else's identity? I don't think it's happening.

Here is how the ID requirements work: https://elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov/pdfs/trusted-info/trusted-info-voter-id-reg-requirements.pdf
This also assumes poll workers are enforcing ID requirements, seems they don't do that

This site is really strange.. there’s a group of .gov lovers here, they lap up anything found on a gov website or from politicians speeches as gospel truth, while ignoring facts and personal experiences shared that challenge their beliefs. Aggressive confirmation bias defense like I’ve never seen before..

Something strange about this place..

This is the second am. community as a whole. A collection of people who have built an entire identity around sovereignty so consumed by cultural religious, masculinity, and appeals to tradition that they largely discard the core value behind their belief in underlying and trade it for the exact opposite.

To be honest I found this just as confusing as a teenager living in texas in the 90s as I find it today a 40 something living in California.

More people than not seem to be deeply conflicted and wrestling with insecurity about who or what they are. I guess it's just modernism and living in a declining empire.

I am not to worried. If there was anything at all wrong with our election process, they (California) would not make a law making it a crime to investigate our elections.

Plus they wouldn't cooperate with the DOJ and turn over voter lists to cross identify illegal and dead voters.

We have the mostly unprecedented luxury of making decisions based on emotion rather than direct survival needs. We’ve grown accustomed to the social safety net that provides everything needed with no real “bad choice feedback” that quickly killed us a century ago.

And that’s making our species increasingly stupid and soft.

laws for the lowest common denominator. We can’t just let nature take its course.

I for one look forward to our Cyberpunk 2077 future
