What Extended +0 baseplates for sig 320 x5 legion

Considering the info that Freetureless noted. What competitions would even allow extended bases like these? It seems the rules would limit anyone from using something like this.

Also, it's sucks to be in CA because these could be hollowed out and with a new spring could greatly extend compacity per magazine.

I'm going to modify the one I made to be angled and shorter to see how it works for me. If anything, the extra weight feels good, looks cool and be different than what any one else has.

For competition uspsa it has to stay 140mm but outside of competition maybe outlaw matches or if you go to open where you can do 170mm. Amazing work though.. Looks kinda fun to make your own parts..

Thanks

I just measured this one and it's 162mm, now 170 seems ridiculously long... I guess this would fit within those rules but with no extra capacity that would hinder the competitor. The extra weight and balance could help though.

Still a fun project either way

Quick update:

I modded the mock up to have the mounting pocket parallel to the mag (angled out of the pistol) and also cut it down twice for 2 different lengths to see how it worked out.

The first length is 1.88" long and you can grab the mag with your hand.

The second length is 1.375" long and you need to use your thumb and forefinger to grasp the mag.

The shorter it gets, the less weight there is and of course the less you can grab. What do you guys think of these 2 lengths? I like the look of the longer one, it's growing on me. I'll make another post when I come up with what I'm going to use.

Liking the new length of the angled ext. base.

Unfortunately I got caught up in playing around with this project and didn't get the chance to shoot with the 2" hunk hanging down.. I would have to liked to just to see.

With the shorter, less weight based you don't feel the weight and it doesn't change the balance as much but that's actually a good thing so the gun still shoots the same.

I'll figure out what works for the competition length limit and either make it to that or go in-between the lengths shown.

Thanks for the input

Not an expert but I believe the competitions are limited in the number of rounds per magazine anyways, so this will still be fully useful. Someone with more experience may chime in.

That’s the Production Division. Carry Optics and Limited have the overall magazine length restriction , but however many you can fit in that length is ok. This type of pistol without a magwell would be ok in Prod and CO. With magwell it would be for Limited or Limited Optics.

Just to add:

Even if you don’t compete., Taking pistol classes will ( eventually) require you to drop mags onto hard ground. Most polymer mag bases won’t tolerate that for long. You can beat the crap out of aluminum baseplates so when you are dry firing drills and reloads at home , they will be ok.

Looking more into it, if I cut 6mm off the shortest version shown it would fit withing the 140mm limit and still provide the pull out, smack in and ground drop benefits mentioned in this thread. (which I think was the initial intention anyway) It wouldn't effect the balance and weight like the 2" long version but that was just something I came to notice after making it.

I think one within the 140mm length that has a gripping feature around the bottom would be the best for the OP. I'll try that and then decide if I want to make them longer for myself or make some that will fit within the rules and see if anyone would be interested in some. Either way I'm glad the OP made this thread because I'm happy with what I came up with and will be adding them to several of my Legion mags.

Ironically and completely by chance the last rendition is 139.9mm long per the measurement chart, that's crazy!!! I think that's a true sign that this is exactly what the mag base should be. I'll come up with a feature at the bottom of the base to help grasp it an make a post with how it turns out.

Does anyone in San Diego have a gage just to make sure it's fits?

Matt

I tested a feature to put on the bottom edge of the mag base to grasp onto.

Pic one is a tip radius from a ball endmill and pic 2 is a side cut from a key cutter. The key cut has a sharp edge which has a nice feel but the radius has more area for the meat of your fingers to grab onto. I think the ball endmill looks cooler too so I'm going with that. (the key cutter slot could be wider and deeper but I still think the ball feature would work out better)

I'm deciding on putting the radius feature either just on the 2 sides of the base or adding it to the front too for 3 sides.

What do you guys think of both features and if the radius should be in 2 sides or 3?
