I finally get to agree with Jimi. Fedex and UPS have gone to .

FedEx is actually getting better; haven't had any problems in a year or two. I think the reason is that they have much less business from Amazon, which was overloading them, and had no profits in it for FedEx.

You mean because the current USPS system is working so much better than private shipping companies?
Also, the USPS is not a "public service".
You have to pay for the service, just like with private shipping companies.
The only thing different about the USPS is a constitutional charter and that when they run at a loss, they get subsidized with federal funds.

It's not been packages that I've shipped for some reason. Only packages that are shipped to me. Even now, had a Priority Mail package sent from NY on 9-13-25 they were in possession of the package early 9-13... it's still sitting in NY according to the tracking info, with an ETA of tomorrow. I'm doubting it will be coming tomorrow as stated by USPS.

Yup, that's the type of stuff I've been seeing over and over. Not all packages go on sight seeking tours arcoss the nation, but at the very least it seems most are delayed and rarely make the USPS own ETA for delivery, regardless of which service is selected.

I sold and sent a item to Hawaii via ebay. 1 month later, the item still has not arrived in Hawaii and I started a missing package report and insurance report. The item sold for 80, but USPS "Ground" covers 100. The buyer does not even complain, not one word.

Months later, I find out the item is in Samoa. I get paid via Insurance, get to keep my ebay sold money as well. The buyer, out of luck since the buyer seems to not even remember buying this as I received no messages. It has now been 2 months, so buyer is out from return/dispute window.

Another month passes, and the item is finally delivered to buyer and I get a 5* rating. Weirdest ever in usps shippings.

USPS should be privatized, like most government organizations. It's all fraud, abuse and waste. It's other people's money. They don't care.

This is a Priority Mail Package. It was already in Sacramento, then took a detour up to Colusa? Today is the day that was the original ETA from USPS. Now it will mysteriously take several extra days to get here.

We can start by asking our most recent Postmaster General, who'd been running the show for the last 5 years (had anyone been experiencing these kinds of problems to this extent before then?) up until his resignation in March.

Believe it or not, FedEx has actually gotten worse. It took 6 weeks to get a set of spark plugs, shipped the day after I ordered, from Georgia to Los Angeles. I use UPS whenever I can now.

Actually, there are more differences between the USPS and private carriers.

One of the big differences is that the USPS has a "must accept and transport" written into law for certain things (in particular normal letters). And their delivery schedule is tied into that too. This for example interacts with banking law, and federal civil procedure: The USPS can never be closed for 4 days in a row, because banks and courts need to be able to send certain documents by mail within 3 days (submit to the post office, not arrival time).

From a legal philosophy standpoint, the USPS of today is an interesting hybrid. The term used for it by political scientists is QGO or GONGO: Quasi-Governmental Organization or Government-Organized Non-Governmental Organization. That is different from NGOs, which include all private businesses (although in common language, the term is mostly used for non-profits and lobbying organizations). Historically, at the time of the founding of the USA, the job of transporting mail fell squarely on the government, as one of the sovereign functions, but it was usually outsourced. For example, in the "Holy Roman Empire" (middle-age Europe), the imperial government leased that business to the princely house of Thurn and Taxis (after whom today's taxi is still named, as they also transported passengers, just like Wells Fargo in the western US). It made perfect sense that the budding nation-state of the USA also created a postmaster and a postal system, to connect all the disparate states.

If one were to undo the ties between the USPS and the federal government, it would require a lot of other legislation and regulation to be changed. This would be a fine plan, but one would have to first mandate that functioning and reliable e-mail systems must exist. Alas, the track record of the federal government in regulating and organizing information technology is abysmal. I think Denmark is trying this right now, abandoning letter delivery.

My theory in these cases is that the package or letter didn't actually travel that path, but that the tracking information is simply wrong. We've all seen cases on the internet where a package is on the west coast, 5 minutes later on the east coast, 10 minutes later at Chicago airport, and then back on the west coast. That makes all the tracking information seem somewhat suspect.

I believe it did as I finally received it and the way the label was put on it at a corner the return address looks like the delivery address. However now A box arrived at Santa Clarita and instead of Sylmar hub it is now in Chatsworth hub so will have to go back and be re routed.
