What is up with the used market?

Bad ads sit and good ads go quickly. As this site gets older it's going to get more bad ads that sit for months without budging on an over inflated price. I've watched a Staccato ad being bumped for over a year with thousands of views and the price hasn't moved. It's just more garbage you have to weed through.

So other than pricing , what makes a bad ad vs a good ad? Trying to educate myself .

I always felt the market was lagging in these types of pistols . But then again I'm looking at it through the lens of the stupid roster smh.

I had the shield 2.0 PC in 9mm and already thought that if I didn't get rid of it, it would be worthless very soon. So last year I was able to sell it off for $450 right around the time SW started adding their lines onto the roster. But yeah, the 1.0 is going to be worth as much as a Hi-Point at this time lol

It's funny seeing all the listings for the 1.0 going for $350+, same for the original Springfield XDs

So I check Turner's and the gun brand new is $499.99....... uh... am I taking crazy pills? Even with regular sales tax and the sin tax thrown in to the emperor, you're at about $593 at Turner's here. Then I see you also get this if you buy one before the end of the month (submitting for my P320 M18 right now too) https://www.sigsauer.com/p320-and-p365-vaultek-consumer-promotion in boy world math that's a free $170ish safe so the gun becomes ridiculously inexpensive.

I already have a tricked out S&W Shield but the P365 seems to shoot very well and optics ready... and some new models just were added to the roster. So, what is up with crazy used prices and anyone have feedback on the P365 models especially the ones just added to the roster? I already have sub compact and full size handguns. The free safe rebate is really good too.

I kind of get asking a little below MSRP trying to leverage the excise tax as a bargaining tool, but asking above MSRP used?

Whatever the asking price is, usually they will take an offer that's lower (within reason ). In my opinion, the people that are motivated to move a piece will price it accordingly. I guess it really depends on the market for a particular gun.
I had a rough time unloading my CZrami (had it at a reasonable price in my opinion)Took some time but was able to get a decent return for it . But it was a niche gun in an already niche market .

When I bought this my dollar was worth more, so now that its worth less I need more cash to balance out what I paid.

Used market is definitely slow. Aftermarket upgrades mean nothing to me. I am looking for unmolested pieces in lightly used condition.
It's a trade-off. You pay cash, save the tax. Pay retail + tax, pay with CC.
I recently found a used Henry Big Boy Brass Carbine in x-cellent condition at a local GS. Price was good, Tax marginal and tolerable.

I simply ignore high price listings. I am not even interested in the type of guns that seem to be involved. Why would I want to own a Glock or a Sig?

I think the trick is to study similar/related sales and price yours slightly lower. Everyone will recognize it as a good deal that will attract serious interest and, if they’re smart, won’t mess around too much.

Back on Calguns I had a Glock 43 for a very reasonable price. I got this one guy who kept stringing me along with question after question after question. By the time he asked his 5th question I had already sold it to another guy who asked exactly (you guessed it) zero questions.

Used guns tend to be priced higher than they would elsewhere because of the excise tax. Off roster guns go for more than MSRP for obvious reasons.

One thing to consider, there are SO many versions of the P365. And the Base vs the Macro is close to double in terms of price difference.

The Base is $500 but the Macro Comp will be close to $900. Different everything except for the FCU and barrel. I have been messing with this platform for a couple of years now and building out some pretty cool stuff - the best part being the aftermarket has practically anything you want when it comes to tweaking (check out @DesertDepotArms for anything SIg).

TBH, the base price on these is just the starting line. And the price difference between the Macro Comp and and the Base comes down to if you want the comp slide. For me, I prefer the Radian add-on. That difference in price is pretty much all in the cost of the SIg comp slide - you will see them on the marketplace stand alone occasionally, and they will sell for 300ish.

I usually check the out of state prices before I go buy used, you would be surprised most of the time it's at parity though on the high end. I'm usually buying older hammer fired guns though, the striker market is all over the place. I've seen used glock 34s from 700-1400. All bone stock.

I have no affinity for 'short-cut' buyers. They are just another subcategory of tire kickers.
It's the most unqualified approach one can take. I would categorize the person as 'not a qualified buyer', probably a dead beat.
My answer would be "make an offer", which most likely will never come.
People who are really interested and willing to take it if the price is right, have a number in mind and would make a distinct offer.
Like: "I will take it for $1k". But, that's a commitment they are not willing to make.

The ad itself could use round count stats. EMPs are usually treated with respect, I would expect a fine working hand gun.

I agree with disliking used firearms with modifications. I don’t like buying something that’s been altered unless it’s just sights or a red dot.
