Where does everyone compete at?

Shot the Prado Wednesday night steel match for the first time 2 weeks ago. Pretty fun and on my way home from work. I will probably do more of those matches

Escondido Fish and Game steel combat match, 1st Saturday of every month. I have shot that match each month for almost a decade now. It's 20 bucks and 100 rounds. Time Plus setup, 5 stages, 20 rounds, 2 reloads per stage. Really fun and perfect match for beginners getting into competitive shooting

Though I will say it has started to go on a downward spiral ever since the staff that actually participate and make an effort to interact with the members and guests either left because of what the board of directors were doing or were forced out by the same 50, 60, and 70 year olds board of directors that don't shoot and are angry all the time. Sad to see the place I practically grew up shooting at become what it has.

Lou Paz and Brian Lamb made that place somewhere you "want" to go to. Now it's just a bunch of old folks running the match with no enthusiasm and don't even compete. Really sad to see, I hope it changes

Oof. Lou is a good friend of mine. I 100% agree about the RSO's at EF&G. They are the very definition of fudds. On the one hand, I understand that Gary has to run a super tight ship and they are just used to doing things one way and one way only. I was there for the very first run and gun match and the look on Gary's face while he watched dudes running around with guns and shooting splits that he thought only an automatic weapon could do was priceless. I thought he was going to have a panic attack trying to herd cats he had no business trying to herd. It was pretty clear to me that they never wanted that match to happen at their range, but they had to give Lou a chance. Whatever happened that brought an end to that match doesn't really matter, because even the smallest incident was going to be their excuse to stop it. And that's what happened.
They do things their way at their range and that's OK. My wife and I are members there, but the range doesnt really have anything to offer run-and-gun shooters aside from a place to check zero(even that is debatable), so unless I'm going to enter the AR match, I have no reason to be there. We stopped shooting the combat steel match a long time ago specifically because of the general treatment from the RSO staff. I won't be pushed around by dudes who can barely put rounds on paper at 10 yards.

I get it, but I don't have to tolerate it.

ngl 40$ to shoot 5 stages of lean left lean right , run to box and run to other box is getting kinda boring . it was worth it before the changeover though . back then they allowed volunteers to shoot for half off or for free.

the vibes there are immaculate, super relaxed. maybe that's not what competitors want but for beginners it's nice . see everything from Dad and son running 22lr pistols to gf's first time shooting

That sounds miserable, I’ve seen this in gun shops but not a range, too bad

Yeah, some of the friends I made there have stopped going all together because of how cranky and pissy the RSOs and leadership get. I started shooting that match when I was 9 and just turned 23 last month. I watched Brian Lamb get forced out and now Lou, the only people I've seen give a damn about how the public and guests for that match turn out.

It was a great match but it's starting to get closer and closer to just being a member only place. I contemplated becoming a member and putting in my volunteer hours but, seeing the current leadership and how they speak to others, and how inefficient the match is now it's a no brainer that I wont become a member.

I sincerely hope it changes, place holds much sentiment for me

Yeah, the Brian thing was also very unfortunate. He's such a good dude. He and Lou both are great guys.

USPSA at Richmond; PRS Regional matches at West Coast Long Range in Zamora and NorCal Practical Precision at Sac Valley. Just shot a PRS club match on a farm in San Diego last weekend with SoCal Long Range, great time there!

Do they have matches at the Laguna range? Been going up there to watch races since the early 90's. My first experience ever at that track was the '94 USGP.

Oh yeah, man. It's a nice looking little range. It's always closed when there's an event at the track. When youre driving in the entrance from the highway, you go left instead of right and it's a little ways up that road on the left side.

I feel bad for you guys out in SoCal. There’s not that many places for action pistol stuff and if there is, it’s very expensive for mediocre stages… you guys deserve better
