Who carries a single action as their edc?

yeah it's definitely a decent choice if you like it
I probably should’ve added some of the cons of the EMP as well.

It’s expensive, compared to polymer alternatives, which is something to consider. Takedown for oiling—which you cannot neglect, since it’s a 1911—is a pain due the design of the guide rod/recoil spring assembly and requires a tool, unless you modify barrel lugs. Also, the guide rod/recoil assembly itself is not a great design, compared to similar products made by Wilson Combat, etc.

Lastly, if possible, I would’ve bought an EMP 4 or Ronin for an inch of extra barrel length and sight radius. IME, the extra length doesn’t really affect concealability. Due to the short barrel and sight radius, the EMP 3 is not the easiest compact to shoot accurately. Unfortunately, we can’t get those alternatives here.

I can’t knock any of you guys for what you choose to carry. I did tons of research trying to figure out what the most reliable short barrel 1911 configuration was that would still be semi lightweight. I just kept running into walls trying to thread a needle that may have been unrealistic. I ended up getting a SW shield 2.0 in 45 and I love it. 3.25” barrel and 7+1 with an option of 6+1 and it’s only 20 oz.

Carried a 1911 .45acp since the 90’s, then SA 1911 EMP 9mm and recently switched to 2011’s 9mm as they have worked the kinks out and it’s easier to shoot with arthritis and injuries.

The 1911 is a great carry gun, a LW frame commander is a great shooter. Officer size is also popular. I have both 9mm and 45 in my carry rotation, but all are 1911 (some double stack).
