Seriously? That's a pretty huge leap from being a gun hobbyist who buys and sells a lot of guns to becoming an FFL. The whole point of requiring a dealer license is supposed to be separating people who are actually in the business of selling guns from private owners and collectors. A lot of us buy guns, shoot them for a while, decide we don't like them and sell them, often at a loss. That doesn't make us gun dealers.
The 5 transaction limit is especially ridiculous because it doesn't make that distinction. You can easily hit the limit just turning over your own collection without making a dime. And getting an 01 FFL in California isn't just filling out a form so you can sell a few more guns. Now you're running a firearms business, with federal, state and local licensing, zoning, record-keeping, inspections, etc. That's a whole 'nother ballgame!

100% agreed. It's an ocean of difference. We should not have to deal with FFL01 headaches just to sell our personal guns, often at a loss.

You described me exactly. I can't just try any gun I want so I end up buying and selling the ones that don't spark joy...or that don't fit or disagree with me somehow (compared to the money I can get back). This is why I sold the Atlas Erebus, just didn't feel good to shoot for me personally, but I know it's a great gun for someone else. It wasn't so much better than my best non-Atlas gun(s) to be worth that much difference in value.

Also, I'm too damned curious for my own good so I'm always looking at something.

Anyhoot, it would be nice if us FFL03/COE holders (given how much info they have about us) could have a higher limit to sell. The default is 5 transactions per calendar year, but an FFL03/COE holder should be able to conduct 25-50 transactions or something similar. This higher number is because a lot of people want to only sell one gun at a time.

Yes, I know the law is unconstitutional but I'm thinking of a realistic limits by tier, similar to how FFL03/COE holders are exempt from the 3 in 30 rule today.
