I have a couple of 6mm CM bolt guns. Love em, just fun and easy to shoot and can really reach out without the "lob" of the 308. I am really liking the BAT action a little more than the defiance though. Just smooth. If you get into reloading the 6mm are pretty nice, I shoot 6 arc and 6 GT, hitting over 2900fps with both (out of boltguns).
Dust em off, lube em and go shoot them. big rounds doesn't always equal big money. My bolt action I haven’t shot in like nine years or so but that’s almost all my guns since I just got back into shooting this year
I only have a lowly zermatt origin. but yeah I don't even shoot 6.5cm anymore let alone 308. There's really no reason besides nostalgia to stick with 308.I have a couple of 6mm CM bolt guns. I wanna say a good price on .308 is like 80 cents a round now. It’s definitely spendy but I guess you don’t have to shoot as much like 5.56 or 9mm.Dust em off, lube em and go shoot them. big rounds doesn't always equal big money.![]()
Can you give me your house Richy richI only have a lowly zermatt origin. but yeah I don't even shoot 6.5cm anymore let alone 308. There's really no reason besides nostalgia to stick with 308.
I don't even need to click on that to know that you can get S&B 6.5 creedmoor for 80 cents a round. 308 isn't cheaper. Even if you aren't buying the absolute cheapest trash can ammo the cost is the same when comparing like for like. why would 308 be cheaper? it uses more powder and a heavier bullet, it costs more to make and 6.5 cm is consumed more in the US now.Can you give me your house Richy rich
$2.25 a round https://www.ammosupplywarehouse.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=36979
Glad I got some more .308 when I did, looks like they’re basically out of stock wow
where do you get it? If it’s the same price then 6.5 is way better suddenlyI don't even need to click on that to know that you can get S&B 6.5 creedmoor for 80 cents a round. 308 isn't cheaper. Wow I’ve bought from them a few times but always with free ship. What a scam they want like $73 to ship 10 boxesIve just always reloaded it but here is PMC 308 vs S&B 6.5 cm which are both the best cheapest you can get
the thing with shooting a rifle for precision is there is a BIG difference in ammo quality and the level of precision you will get out of it, that's why I reload i can load match grade ammo that costs 2.50 a round for like 60 centshttps://sentryammo.com/products/sel...metal-jacket-boat-tail?variant=51883933270240 Yo not bad but also wow $800 at once probably the most I’ve ever spent on ammo in one go
Oh nvm $0.67 for the .308 tho

Isn’t the Scar 17s a piston driven system while the HK 762 is DI driven system?Key word in this thread is PRACTICAL!
Right off the bat let me say I don't hunt. I don't care about proprietary mags. I don't want to build one. I'm looking for featureless and don't plan on adding a sh*t ton of aftermarket mods. If it doesn't make the rifle run better, then I'm not interested. I'm more concerned about weight, stacking mags and ammo. One other thing I'm concerned about, is taking a rifle chambered in .308/7.62 to a range near me. I'm not so sure any indoor range will allow this so how do I train besides taking a ride to an outdoor range where I already know, it won't be many trips which also makes this rifle a safe queen. Practical???
I've been waiting for the 2nd gen SCAR 17S in grey to make it's way to California......
I know there are other rifles out there similar (caliber/price) to the 17s. One in particular that I have been tossing around in my head is the A4 HK MR762 since I have seen a few make their way out here. Both are close in weight. I just don't find it to be as sexy as the SCAR. Honestly, it looks like most other AR's IMO. That does not really matter when the SHTF right? Practicality.......
While waiting for this I also wonder if it's a practical purchase. I'm not one of those guys that buys firearms just because they are new on the roster and fill up my safe. I have a few pistols and only want to maybe purchase a 2011 in the future. I'd rather be proficient in what I have then have a lot of different firearms in different calibers.
That brings me to the .308/7.62 platform. I do not have a rifle chambered in this or anything besides my 223/556.
I would like to hear your thoughts.... Do you feel like a rifle chambered in .308/7.62 would be a practical purchase living in the city in good 'ol California with my concerns above? Should I just focus on the 223/556 platform?
No the HK417 is a short-stroke gas piston system with a solid "pusher rod" operating rod instead of a traditional direct impingement gas tubeIsn’t the Scar 17s a piston driven system while the HK 762 is DI driven system?
Speaking of indoor range not allowing it, if the indoor range allows for rifle calibers; it’s allowed. If their SOP doesn’t specifically state pistol calibers only; what’s the problem?
For SHTF, the looks won’t matter, it’s about if the components will hold up under extended heavy fire and the heat generated. Those two options can be a good set up for a DMR/Reconnaissance role or a .308 battle rifle role. Can also be more effective than 556 if needing to send darts at engine blocks driven by domestic insurgents.
If I could only have one rifle for "the end of the world" type stuff I'd take the AR-10 probably. Tough choice honestly, my AR15 is trick. I'd have to combine them. But .308 allows you to reach out farther than the 5.56 and is good for basically every threat in USAIsn’t the Scar 17s a piston driven system while the HK 762 is DI driven system?
