Feedback AR Pistol Legal Qualification

Penal Code section 30515

Notwithstanding Section 30510, “assault weapon” also means any of the following:

(1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle ...
...

(4) A semiautomatic pistol that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of the following:

(A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.

(B) A second handgrip.

(C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer’s hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.

(D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.

(5) A semiautomatic pistol with a fixed magazine that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

In CA since you cant run a suppressor an AR pistol is really just a novelty and if anything just offers you less. 14.5 pin and weld is a perfect length IMHO

Not necessarily if you’re using primarily for HD, having a shorter barrel is ideal.
Ideal for what? Blowing out your eardrums? Not legally being able to change the magazine or run freedom week magazines? I run 14.5 and 13.9 pw in matches around all manner of obstacles and dry fire all around my tiny house. It's perfectly maneuverable a few inches isn't going to change anything.

Ideal for maneuvering in a house. Yes it’ll not make your ears feel good but I’ll take that over a longer barrel which will still not make your ears feel good so the trade off is worth it. Can you do it effectively with a longer barrel? Sure you can but it’s more difficult.

You can not purchase a stripped lower AS A PISTOL unless the transfer is roster exempt.
That means you need to be roster exempt yourself or PPT it from a roster exempt person or getting it via an act-of-law (family) transfer.
You can't simply walk into a typical gun store and buy a stripped lower receiver from the store and ask them to transfer it to you as a pistol.
Correct like I stated I deacworh LEOs so they are exempt from roster.

When I resell previously registered AR pistol lowers, I give the buyers the option to assemble the lower to be complete before we DROS it.
That lets them end up with a complete fixed-magazine semi-auto without having to do extra DROS later.
Assembling a lower still is considered an other with feds and would still be drosed as a pistol frame or receiver. Are you including them to complete the upper also?

it's really just not a big deal. The 11.5 URGI was built for use with a suppressor, people doing CQB are ultimately running over 16" barrels de facto because of the suppressor. If you train it's not hard to maneuver a 16 inch barrel in a house at all.

Not 100 percent true I’ve cleared many “houses” and not everyone is suppressed. The fact remains a shorter barrel is ideal do cqb that was my original and only point. Can it be done with a longer barrel? For sure like you said if you train enough you can get efficient with almost anything. I just don’t agree they are a novelty just because we can’t own suppressors here I still think they have a purpose for HD.

it's mostly that they are a novelty here in CA because they require fixed mag, no magazines over ten, no suppressor, pay 1000 dollars for a lower, questionable legality of braces etc. all to save a few inches? it's not that they are bad they are fine but are they worth the extra BS is the question.

I can agree with that for sure, juice might not be worth the squeeze when you factor in costs.

Havin a 10.5 i agree it is not my primary hd gun i prefer a handgun for that. The 10.5 is very loud and its a range toy although its pretty accurate its not the best.I may up barrel to a 12.5 or toss a 9mm upper on it.And if i were to buy a suppresor for it it will now add another 6 or so inches to it

What about threaded barrel on an ar pistol?Does that not apply if it has a fixed mag?
So long as the pistol is built on a lower that is not named in PC 30510, the use of a fixed magazine places the weapon outside the definition of an "Assault Weapon" and thus the prohibition on a threaded barrel is inapplicable.

However, it's important to keep in mind that any weapon built on a PC 30510 listed lower remains an "Assault Weapon" and cannot be "neutered" by use of a fixed magazine, or by making it "featureless."

I guess I just disagree with that sentiment. Mine is my primary HD gun, granted it’s loud af but in the off chance I use it in a HD scenario I won’t give af about that. Any gun you shoot indoors is loud and damaging to your heating.

10.5" isn't a range toy.

7.5" 556 Nato isn't a range toy. Some active US SF, Delta use it for cqb and specific applications.
TBF, in 5.56 most stick to 10.5, 11.5" and 14" barrels. For smaller sizes under 10.5" is usually when you see the specialty calibers designed for suppressed cqb distances.

Agreed 100 percent, yes it sucks that we are limited to 10 rounds but I’ll take 10 rounds of 300 AAC over a handgun caliber any day.
300 is better than 5.56 in under 10.5 barrels. It ballistic wise push that 5.56 out of a 12inch or more barrel it really opens up. Why I wanna change mine out to 12.5 or possibly 300 blackout and stay 10.5
