Are we free now to make California legal AOWs?

So now I can. buy a shorty jack 12 gauge from 2azone and fill out regular Dros and take it home after 10 days ?
Yes. I bought one and I'm waiting 9 days now. I DROS'd that one and dropped off my ARP for engraving.

Sounds like they're saying we need to join GOA and engrave?
The Reddit post is from before the ATF letter expanded coverage to everyone rather than just protected plaintiffs (GOA for example)
I still don't really get what this would open up though because don't they still have to be maglocked? And because of the roster aren't we still blocked from buying just about everything that this would qualify under? Like what's the difference if you SSE a pistol lower and then just keep it as a pistol vs making it AOW?
For AR pistols or MP5 clones it protects you from a state SBR charge if the state feels like calling your brace a stock. They have already indicated in their "Other" AWB Registration that they don't like braces, but for the last 13 years they haven't actually done anything regarding them AFAIK. Putting a VFG on a pistol does not turn it into a state SBR either, some people seem to think that as soon as something is an AOW it is a state SBR or SBS. Things like the PTR Jack and Mossberg shockwaves are legally considered "unconventional pistols", which require it to be an AOW to be legal here always.

But everyone uses braces, I've never heard of anyone having an issue. Is it actually more legally defensible to do an AOW when the definitions are just as weird and the atf rules are changing every day? The regulators aren't confirming any of this so the whole thing is just as grey area as just using a brace on an sse

How is the process for The Jack? I wonder how 2a zone is able to sell these, meaning what are they doing so it's ok for civilians to buy in CA.

If you engrave it it makes it into a AOW and not I can put a vertical grip on my semi auto at pistol

I've heard rumors a very long time ago and "Other" AWB registration specifically said braces and carbine buffer tubes weren't allowed, but there are probably 500K braced firearms in CA by now and nothing has happened. AOWs for AR pistols are the easiest and least useful, but shotshell AOWs are what are actually cool.

What you could do to that AR AOW after it becomes one is also a lot more interesting of a topic that people don't discuss because they get so caught up on the "making an AOW in the first place" aspect of the discussion.

Engraving doesn't make it an AOW and an NFA tax stamp doesn't make something an AOW either. A firearm is only an AOW when it is an assembled AOW. ATF Rule 2011-4

The process was just like a regular DROS. It's not like an ATF form.

I didn't go there to ask many questions. It's for sale and I bought it.

I saw a stack of other PTR AOW either waiting for pickup or engraving. People jumped on this.
I’ve got a few AOWs but I’m probably in for a Jack just to experience getting one on a regular 4473, haha!!

I'm just irritated that I've got no answer regarding my Form 1 application for my Shockwave.

I bought my Genesis 12 from 2Azone in July. I had little hope of it being freed this year. People have been waiting for AOW approval on other guns since last year. I thought if I get it, great! If not, at least put myself in the queue and make the CA DOJ make a decision.

Why are people still talking about engraving if it’s no longer required

is that really it? You can just use a slightly angled foregrip. no one actually shoots a gun using the foregrip as a grip like in 80s movies, it's really just a hand stop to index from
then its not a VFG, its a "handstop" - they are marketed and sold as 2 different things tho...there are versions of each.

The law requiring engraving still exists and is enforceable, the ATF just said that they won't. Nothing is stopping them from changing their mind or federal prosecutors for charging you over it anyways.

all of these kinds of grips are handstops because using a grip like a primary grip like that doesn't actually work well to shoot it. The only reason it's illegal is it was a part of the SOPMOD m4a1 kit from the 80s. But it seems like the only reason people want it is because it's illegal, because you can do the same thing with a bunch of other legal devices.

I have an OG KAC foregrip somewhere still
