Best 2011 CA Legal

I think that’s only an issue if your IA is really left wing like some in the Bay Area. Never heard of that being an issue out here
Correct. You could run into a issue with issuing agency, since when they run the serial numbers on your firearms, it'll come back as a 25 acp s single shot, and you're trying to add it as a 9mm semiauto

Yeah I could see that. But he said it wasn’t a problem. I don’t want to conceal carry a huge steel gun lmao

Obviously there’s a way since people in the thread are buying them
SSE, PPT and intrafamily act-of-law transfers are the ways, but none of those fits into the standard "buy NEW from any FFL" that you started this thread with.

At each price point what is the 'best' CA legal 2011? Best overall? That you can go to a store and buy new, or order. Not PPT lol
If you want to order/buy new from any typical FFL you might walk into, then the roster is your only option.
All the other ways involve several extra steps/costs.

The guns that people are getting via SSE are manufactured by 07 FFL manufacturers from frames that have never been assembled into a handgun before.
They basically buy handguns that have supposedly never been assembled, then they engrave a new manufacturer name/model on them and they DROS them to you as a single shot pistol.
It's then up to you to re-assemble the gun into a semi-automatic.
On paper, they sold you a single shot pistol, so when you assemble it as a semi-auto, it's YOU who has then re-manufactured the pistol into an off-roster semi-auto pistol.
That's why they have this warning on the roster homepage:
  • Alterations of a single shot pistol (i.e. changing upper receivers, connecting gas tubes) may also be considered manufacturing an unsafe handgun. See California Penal Code sections 31900-31910 for the definition of unsafe handguns and 32000(a) for more information on illegal acts involving unsafe handguns.
So just beware that when you paper a single shot and then make it a semi-auto and it somehow gets into law enforcement hands, there's proof that the gun was not a semi-auto when you took delivery of it.
People talk about washing the single shot DROS by converting it and then doing a pawn and return as a semi-auto, but that creates even more evidence that you are the one that changed it to a semi-auto because you will be on both DROS for the same pistol but with 2 different modes of operation.
SSE2.0 is a cat/mouse game and people are not currently getting in trouble for playing the game, but there's a mountain of evidence sitting in the AFS system and should the state later decide to mine that data and go act on it, it gets harder to deny it.

Was browsing gun shops today and, while looking at some 1911s, the guy enthusiastically told me that a (new?) Sig 2011 is hitting the roster soon. Can’t remember the model because 2011s aren’t my jam.

Either the GT4 or GT5.

If you buy one I'll buy one. That GT4 looks really nice. $2,099 is a lot but not too insane...

Once a 2011 hit the roaster under 2500 that one will dominate. Kimber 2k11 should be soon? The gta4 and 5 hopefully. Not sure who else can cover the testing cost.

Wow just learned the P211 GT4 can accept P320 magazines. No brainer then for me, saves a ton on the ecosystem

This is how i feel. SSE for range or competition all day should have no issues. But yes you run a big risk if it used for self defense same feeling on the AR pcc. But over all most people will never have to use there sse in a defense situation. Same goes for the people that just run there non complant ARs. Never a problem untill it is one type or thing.

I'm waiting for the GT5 to come in, it's a budget 2011 that has a frame for 320 mags. Talked to a Sig rep, they said late summer for CA Roster.

The 2K11 I was not impressed with unfortunately. Blocky frame worse than most 2011s and a trigger that was nothing to write home about.

I have a couple Atlas's coming in, still waiting, you guys on CAguns will get to see them first!

Ya the Kimber use 2011 mags as well, its a hard pass on 2011 mags i had a prodigy for a bit and all the 2011 mags rattle and have loose rounds due to how the 10 rounds stack in a blocked mag. I had prodigy mags and A atlas mag as well.

:( shooting 2011s with limited capacity mags is just a sad affair overall.

Venom, rafferty, infinity (caveat here as you have to actually win the drop first), dark forge makes a better shooting 2011 with similar fitment to anything currently in Atlases lineup (there’s no current Hades nor a chaos v2) and the Kovert reaper or just the hybrid reaper will outshoot the Erebus and Apollo.
Not even close on build quality, and you say it beats Atlas, depends on who is behind the gun, yes nice , but price is way inflated for what you get, nice but not as well built , and price getting in atlas territory

Who is getting in trouble for it? What’s one case of this ever happening?

I've owned every V2 Atlas made including all the LE versions as well as the Dark Forge Reaper, Wraith, etc. I'm assuming your comments are in regards to Dark Forge as Venom, Rafferty, and Infinity are demonstrably better fit and Atlas themselves have stated Rafferty and Venom make better guns from largely Atlas parts (per Adam). Infinity is its own thing given Brandon has extreme OCD around controlling the process so they make everything in house including all the small parts. I forget if that even includes their springs. Something not even Atlas did until recently.

As for Dark Forge, the Kovert Reaper (ported and comped) absolutely outshoots any current V3 Atlas in terms of splits or return just given the physics of ported and comped versus no such current analogue until the Hades production version releases Q4 2026 or Q1 of 2027. Dark Forge is more hit or miss, but I've not been impressed with V3 Atlas fitment and I've probably handled 20 different guns at this point across various V3 models. Coatings, barrel lockup, trigger fit, disconnector issues, slide to frame fit was sloppy on some. I'd generally give Atlas the edge as they have a more refined production process, but they've been pushing heavily the past year further and further into their emphasis on tight tolerance CNC machining to reduce or minimize how much hand fitment and QC assembly requires. Per Adam those numbers are down a decent amount, even if there are still plenty of hours put in.

Dark Forge is Rogue. They've been around, they did/do plenty of white label work for the likes of TTI and other similar brands like Cardinal/Optimum were providing parts for Atlas. Sure you can argue their fitment isn't as good on average, but shoot the Ported and Comped reaper off a ransom rest against an Erebus or Apollo and see for yourself. I sure have. I've also run them back-to-back with plenty of GM buddies who agree that it's close, but the ported and comped reaper is easier to return, faster to return, and has less felt recoil. The Hades beats the reaper by a tiny bit, and all of this is splitting hairs, but it's there. Now, whether a shooter has the skill or experience to tell those minute differences is a whole other matter.
