Best on-roster handgun to purchase?

That's fair. I didn't think much of it when asking, but I just meant to ask what folks think are fun/neat and like to shoot. No particular purpose so I suppose range toy. I have some of the guns mentioned already in the thread, for reference my current stable is: CZ 75 SP-01, CZ 75 TS, HK VP9, G21c, SW 586.
Yeah man- not a dig at you. It was a general observation that I've seen enough times, its likely I jump to that conclusion. After a career in sales, it reminds me of clients that early on ask "How much" because they simply don't know what else to ask.

If you wanna a range toy, get the biggest, heaviest, longest barreled pistol or revolver that you can afford.🤙🏻

There has been a lot of good insight, but the question was asked what is the best gun you can legally buy in CA. OP didnt specifically say for EDC, home defense, comp or range toy. He simply posed the question, "what is the best?: I wager anyone's choice against my Atlas Erebus. It will shoot circles around any gun listed in this thread. Yes it is expensive but you get what you pay for. He asked for the best, and the Erebus is clearly the "BEST" gun you can buy period right now anywhere.
I didn’t see Atlas on the roster.

Colt python because your going to wake up one day and realize your a man of good taste. 357 is a proven man stopper and perfect for lions, bears and oh my! Your kids aren't going to get excited when they inherit whatever plastic fantastic wonder 9. When other handguns put holes in people, 357 puts holes through people. If you can shoot, 6 shots is plenty. Beware the man who chooses the finest American made revolver in the year 2025, he probably knows how to use it. Back that up with an m14 type rifle, yes I am a self declared late-boomer.

357 Magnum is weak and pathetic. But there is an answer!

Right, because there’s nothing that makes sense about a 92 or 220 series. 😄
Beretta 92 is only in 9mm. Sig p220 is only in 45. Both inferior to 10mm. Glock also has other calibers better than 9 and 45 like 357 sig. Glocks also last a lot longer and are a lot more reliable and always go bang for less than sig and beretta money wise. So i mean, comparing to inferior guns sure

EDC: P365 - modular, comfortable. great to conceal.
Range Toy: DR920P - Great price for what you get. Compensated, accurate, glock mags, well textured.
Range Toy: SIG 226 - Shouldn't need to explain this one.
1 and Done: M&P 2.0 at value - All rounder, can carry it comfortably, decent for range stuff. Just need to optic cut it. Plenty of full size 1.0's for cheap on calguns and caguns.

Not worth it: Staccato P4. Don't let the staccato hype get you. the P4 isn't anything special. Wait for the 4.5 at least.

if you want to go SSE route, get an Atlas Artemis or Erebus

No argument with 10mm. Many can’t or dont want to handle it, though. As far as cost of the firearm, that savings of buying a 10mm or .357 Sig Glock will quickly be offset by the price of ammunition over 9mm and (to a lesser extent) .45 ACP.

Second what several other people have said: Without telling us the purpose of the gun, it's impossible to answer that question.

Another category that hasn't been mentioned yet: 22 pistols for practice and plinking. I'm particular to Browning Buckmarks.

Valtro still has one on the roster.
Valtro's haven't been made in quite a while.

Valid points on the ammunition costs. But i just dont trust 9mm or 45 when it comes to woods carry guns, plus i dont trust the effectiveness of 9mm when it comes to adrenaline induced threats or druggy tweaker threats, confident that 10mm in 180gr xtp will be a one tap show stopper for any two legged threats.

I don’t trust anything but a magnum revolver out in the woods. A 10mm with moon clips wouldn’t be all bad loaded hotter than Hades.

Full power 10mm 200gr hard cast is pretty effective against anything you’d ever encounter, 4 or 2 legged, and in the woods you dont gotta think twice about over penetration.
