Best place to PPT?

Where’s the best place in the Santa Clara country area is best for a PPT?

My go to was RMB but there moving and won’t be operational for 1-2 months.

Don’t wanna go to reeds, they don’t prioritize PPTs.

Any suggestions fellas? TIA

The amount charged for PPT is set by state law, and no FFL can increase it above $10, in addition to the $37.xx that go to the state. A PPT is when both buyer and seller are California residents, and both show up at the FFL.

For a non-PPT transfer (for example for a gun coming from out of state or from another dealer), the FFL can charge whatever they want. I've heard that Bullseye Bishop is around $100 or 10% of the value of the firearm, whichever is higher. If my memory serves me right, UG Imports is $100; RMB Enterprises is $80, and Farwest Photography is $60, but please call and verify those fees (they may have increased them since the last time I used them). And to be honest, I don't remember whether those numbers include the $37.xx for the state or not.

And in all that, remember that the FFL may be required to collect California sales tax. Sometimes people mix that with the transfer fee (which is where a lot of stories about "9% of the value of the gun" come from).

I also vouch for Bullseye Bishop. The proximity to me and usually quick service keeps me going back for my PPT needs. There's usually at least 3 staff members behind the counter so the chances of being in and out are higher. They do get slammed sometimes though.

And their PPT fee is the usual $47.19

This is all true. But here in SoCal, I've noticed a new trend of places charging "storage fees". Or they'll do something where they only offer PPT on specific days.

I live close to there but if I lived in the south bay I don't think I would want to drive that far, unless of course the gun was being sold by someone in the area. I'm curious why you think it's worth such a long drive for a PPT?

All of the LGS in my area charge $150 for a transfer. Glaser also isn’t a pretentious jerk, he’s quick and he gets you in and out.

Reeds Indoor Range in Santa Clara has a strict "storage fee" policy if you can't pick up right away (day 11 or something like that - I don't know if they strictly administer it but I've never had to test it). I like E2 Gun Vault in Mountain View, for being fast and courteous. Have also had good experiences at Coyote Point Armory in Burlingame if you want to head further north. To me, Farwest is trickier with scheduling times to meet, but I think he is more responsive if you are a regular (which admittedly I'm not). UG Imports was great but their hours are a little more limited for my schedule.

Edit: I think all of their PPT fees are in the range of "normal" as described here. I've never had to pay $150 for a PPT at any of these.

Outdoor Sportsman in Stockton charges a $30/day storage fee on any PPT that is not picked up on the 10th day (or first available if 10th falls on a closed day). I was the seller in that situation and did the transfer there at the buyer's request but I thought that was absurd.
