Not everyone can order from the CMP. It is also a bit of a hassle.

And finally, some people (in particular in the wealthy parts of the state, such as LA's entertainment and the Bay Area's computer and AI industry) don't care about a few hundred $ here or there. Consider that something like 80% of all Nvidia employees are millionaires, half of them have a net worth of $25M or more. For them paying $2000 to get the Glock they want RIGHT NOW AND RIGHT HERE is a fine use of their resources.

You could have said the same thing about Broadcom employees 20 years ago. Most were paper wealthy from unvested stock options and few got out at the right time.

I guess ill contribute my 2 cents, and a few things come to mind;

-things are only worth what people are willing to pay for them, and right now demand is high.
-money talks.
-an asking price is just an asking price, an offer is just an offer. both are often just outside the edge of reason.
-negotiating is part of the fun in hunting for deals in used/private markets. The trades, extras, and mutual respect that comes with a handshake after a constructive compromise is satisfying. Business is business, no hard feelings.
-things other than cash can add value and close gaps. I know if i was a seller, i would take a quick easy transaction somewhere nearby and on time over a couple extra bucks two towns over, with no 2nd proof of residency and 45 minutes late. If i was a buyer, Id pay and extra $100 if youll come to me and include whats in your parts bin.
-i hardly react to overpriced stuff, too focused on finding the gems rather than staring at the dirt.

fwiw ive had nothing but pleasant experiences as a buyer.

Just wait until the Gen 3 Glock is off roster and discontinued. People are going to be asking $1,500 for a g3 17.
Comes with original plastic case and two magazines. All stock. Barely used, approximately 2500 rounds down the pipe. And you know what, some dummy will buy it.

Big 5 still had $25 500 round boxes of Aguila high velocity .22lr during covid; and it would be $20 with the coupon

Everyone who can legally own a firearm can order from the cmp. Yes it is a hassle but so is owning firearms in this state. 10 day wait? Having to Google search what is and isn't a legal AR? Handgun roster and having to scour consignments for something you might want? Want to get ammo without retailers F-ing you? Need an 03+COE.

Meanwhile the cmp: be a member at a shooting range (3/4 I go to are affiliated with the cmp,) or spend 30 bucks on an online membership with some org. Then order your rifle.

Not quite: You have to be a US citizen (so permanent residents are out). You have to be a member of a range, which usually requires one to also be an NRA member. Or join some other org; fortunately, the GCA exists, and then do a "gun proficiency" test at a range (which few ranges are willing to perform).

I just got a CMP .308 Garand on here last week for basically the CMP price, that felt good to get some use out of my C&R

Congrats on the deal… I don’t trust those by default these days.

There was one a few years ago on armslist that I thought this can’t be real. Brand new Benelli m2 with a brand new carry bag and original case. Was in my town so went for it, ended up being an older guy who won it at a ducks unlimited dinner and just didn’t want it. Got lucky
