Honestly use whatever you like as long as it has a good track record and works with your gun. Lucky gunner has a great comparison chart for most popular self defense rounds that shows bullet expansion and penetration.
I haven’t found a 9mm round that my carry guns won’t shoot lol

I like Federal Hydra-Shok JHP because they make a 110 grain 38 Special that doesn’t feel too spicy in my “Airweight” J-frame.

Forgot to mention, I also like Federal’s 147 grain Hydra-Shok JHP for my compact 9mm.

There are definitely more modern designs but it always feeds reliably for me.

Also, my go-to store local store for ammo usually sells boxes of 50 for $34.99.

Speer Gold Dot for the revolvers. Dept. issued / approved. If you carry a revolver as a BUG or off duty. One of my CCW guns is a S&W 340PD.

How much is HST? I paid 0.80 for P 124gr. Critical Duty I paid 1.12 a round

I average around 0.50 cpr. HST 124/147 goes on sale pretty frequently. It's on TargetSports right now for 0.58 cpr. Critical Duty is on for about 1.05 cpr.

That's including shipping and tax etc? I included that. Either way good deal

Hornady critical duty. Much more effective than critical defense.
I recently ran both of my primary carry pistols (Shield & XD) through over a dozen different types of ammo. The only issues I had were with Critical Defense.

No 💩, what where they doing? That is my go to for .380.

Turned both of them from semiautomatic to manually operated handguns. Granted, two is a relatively small sample size, no matter how different the two guns are. I'd be willing to try them in another gun, for sure, but they won't be carried in either of those.

That blows, jumping to HST’s?

HST's, Critical Duty or Syntech Defense. All three performed well. So did V-Crowns, Silvertips, Armscor +P and even Independence.
