I have been using critical defense as well. No issues with my shield plus, Canik, EMP, P365, Shadow System. Will soon test out on P2000SK.

Only used a mag or two each firearm though.

I'm not, by any means, saying it's no good. I'm just saying it wouldn't cycle either of those two. Whenever I quit being poor, I can try it in something else.

Turned both of them from semiautomatic to manually operated handguns. Granted, two is a relatively small sample size, no matter how different the two guns are. I'd be willing to try them in another gun, for sure, but they won't be carried in either of those.
wtf?

it will be fine with P2000SK, I haven't had any 9mm not cycle in it, including JHP's and reloads

Were the guns relatively “clean”?

I had issues with PMC .380 in my BG 2.0CC when I put a few hundred rounds without cleaning. She is a dirty girl compared to all my other pistols.

Guns were relatively "clean" when I showed up to the range. Ensured zero with a couple mags of 115gr Blazer, then commenced running any and everything. I couldn't tell you exactly which mag had the Critical Defense or how "clean" the guns were at that point. Everything else ran fine, regardless of "cleanliness". To me, that's just not reliable enough to bet my life on with those two pistols. Maybe in something else.

Well that is a big list and quality level. The defenders 🍆ing up is a major bummer.
It was an expensive, but necessary test. I have some leftover in 9 and .380, so when I get something else, I will give them another fair shake. If so many people swear by them, they can't be garbage.

Is there really a point in buying a carry gun/short barrel specific round like critical defense or Gold Dot Carry, rather than running regular 124 grain + P in something like a shield X or P2000sk?

I'm going to be the one guy to carry underwood civil defense. And may take 💩 for it, but I like what I see in ballistic gel. Shoots like a laser too

we’re still talking about small-bore pistol rounds. They are not rifles. They are not magic. Handgun ammo is just not that ballistically efficient compared to long guns.
Old post but I want to address this (imo) specious argument. The inherent ballistic ineffectiveness of handguns is exactly why bullet design is important. They ride closer to the threshold for effectiveness, so bullet design could and does make the difference between an incapacitating shot that penetrated and expanded, and one that didn't. To take the extreme, if you hit someone with a 50bmg then bullet design really doesn't matter, they are probably dead. But you get down to 380acp and bullet choice makes a huge difference in terminal performance, and it takes you over or under the acceptable performance threshold.

I agree with your point about time spent training vs debating the number of angels that can dance on the head of a bullet, but I wanted to address the logic of that part as I've seen that line of thinking before.

critical defense isn't +p, the others are. I run +p in the P2000SK, no real reason not to
