CCW shooting in Cerritos at Restuarant

I guess Lt. Col. Dave Grossman was wrong. There aren’t just 3 types of people in the world . . .

IMG_2492.webp

There are apparently also some California CCW holders who are equipped to defend themselves and the rest of the flock from the wolves, but choose not to. Sheep in sheepdog clothing?

I’m glad the guy at that Cerritos restaurant wasn’t one of those. He probably saved quite a few lives by stepping up and doing what he did.

We’re just posting completely different scenarios now? Doesn’t look like a small dining room with his family in close proximity to a deranged knife attacker.

Multiple attackers just highlights how dangerous a situation like that is. Many cops have died the same way to ambush sadly.

Yeah we know that lol. A minor?
i assumed it was a minor being at a highschool, could have been a super senior i guess

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday, April 14 said the shooting was an act of self-defense during an attempted robbery. The DA’s office said two people who were not students at Natomas High went onto campus looking for a specific student

Apparently a person with his CCW shot and killed a crazy guy with a knife inside Luciells in Cerritos. I know you can't carry at a restaurant that serves alcohol. Wonder how this goes.
Its all resturants (sb2 sensitive places) This will be a interesting to see how sb too is handled could be a big win if its not used.

Seems that some would rather leave the situation and let a massacre unfold.

Yeah, the expansion from bars, in the original proposed language, to any place that serves alcohol was very disappointing.

Obvs you should not drink while carrying. And there’re legitimate law enforcement reasons/interests for keeping firearms out bars.

But any restaurant with a beer/wine or liquor license while allowing CCW at restaurants without? There’s no logic there …

Make no sense to me, as long as ccw carrier is not drinking it shouldn't matter imo.

Before sb2 we can go to any resteraunt as long as if sells food(not just a bar) and we are not drinking

None of these restrictions make any sense. Why am I allowed to carry on one side of the street but not in my school?
Why can I carry when I drive around LA but not in a "sensitive place".
Its either you trust me with a gun or you dont.

I’d say I’m more of an Amur leopard, and this strikes me as reductionist nonsense.

There’s lots of other things to consider. But none of those things mesh well with the polarization of this group so it’s really not worth discussing.

I just hope you don’t miss that’s all.

Ironically a very similar situation happened to me yesterday while on my way to work. Homeless guy I’m guessing, crossing the street while I was at a stoplight on my motorcycle.

He was agitated with me, and I revved my motorcycle above his verbal abuse which I guess bothered him.

He dropped his bag, rifled through it then pulled out and raised a machete while closing distance, screaming “I’ll chop your f-inf arm off” at me.

I put my hand on my gun, didn’t draw, and just waited to see if he’d actually go for it. Just chilled there with one hand on the clutch and the other on my gun ready to drop the bike and draw. He was probably 8-10ft away from me this whole time. He even tried taunting me to shoot him, calling me the short form version of what you’re trying to call me.

I had every right to put a hole in his head.

But half a second after nothing escalated I stayed still until the light turned green.

Then I just went to work…didn’t have to dump the bike, and didn’t have to kill anyone.

Granted I wasn’t in a closed space like a restaurant. No idea what the actual situation was like but yeah if I have a choice to leave I’m for sure leaving.

yeah there really are so many situations and contexts. Here is something to consider: most CCW holders probably don't have enough training to safely fire their weapon in a crowded restaurant. We definitely shouldn't be shaming people that aren't ready for that into blasting away in these situations. Another big caveat is that if a person isn't threatening you directly, you may not know the situation. They may be the defender. This restaurant shooting was very cut and dry as far as who the danger was but in another situation how do you know you aren't shooting another "hero"? There's a lot of room in between "you are a hero" and "you are a 🐙" depending on the specific situation.

Go back and reread Post #35. There was nothing about lack of skill or situational uncertainty. His tune back then was, “No chance I’m putting my freedom on the line for these clowns. . . . They voted for it. I didn’t. So I’m leaving. ‘Enjoy the fruits of your labor’ is what I’d say while I’m preserving my own life.”

Whether he really meant it that way or not, those are the words of a sheep in sheepdog’s clothing, trying to justify his failure to do the right thing when the situation presented itself.

I agree that that is actually a bad take.

We 2A/CCW minded folk tend to take note of news stories like the Lucille’s shooting. But one aspect that’s not reported enough is the psychological fallout, even from 110% justified self-defense shootings, when no criminal case or civil suit follows.

My CCW/combat shooting instructor told me about this based on observations of fellow officers during decades with LAPD. I’ve also heard the guy from the ASP YouTube channel cite a shockingly high increase in suicide rates among defenders. I can’t even imagine the psychological effect of unintentionally hurting—or god forbid killing—a bystander during a self-defense shooting.

That is why training—and also honest, ego-free self-reflection about your skill level—is so important.
