CCW shooting in Cerritos at Restuarant

We 2A/CCW minded folk tend to take note of news stories like the Lucille’s shooting. But one aspect that’s not reported enough is the psychological fallout, even from 110% justified self-defense shootings, when no criminal case or civil suit follows.

My CCW/combat shooting instructor told me about this based on observations of fellow officers during decades with LAPD. I’ve also heard the guy from the ASP YouTube channel cite a shockingly high increase in suicide rates among defenders. I can’t even imagine the psychological effect of unintentionally hurting—or god forbid killing—a bystander during a self-defense shooting.

That is why training—and also honest, ego-free self-reflection about your skill level—is so important.
I think even killing "bad guys" will F- you up. Obviously you do what you gotta do but it certainly shouldn't be glorified

Make no sense to me, as long as ccw carrier is not drinking it shouldn't matter imo.

Before sb2 we can go to any restaurant as long as if sells food(not just a bar) and we are not drinking
Makes no sense to me either. The ban on carrying into restaurants that serve alcohol stresses me out, because you don’t always know if a random spot serves bottled beer, so it’s easy to accidentally find yourself in violation.

Go back and reread Post #35. There was nothing about lack of skill or situational uncertainty. His tune back then was, “No chance I’m putting my freedom on the line for these clowns. . . . They voted for it. I didn’t. So I’m leaving. ‘Enjoy the fruits of your labor’ is what I’d say while I’m preserving my own life.”

Whether he really meant it that way or not, those are the words of a sheep in sheepdog’s clothing, trying to justify his failure to do the right thing when the situation presented itself.
Can you explain in detail why your opinion is the right thing to do instead of calling me names and lambasting my character?

you said you wouldn't save people because you think they voted wrong and they deserve it.
That’s an interesting conclusion to draw.

No I didn’t say that. The word “deserve” isn’t in my post.

I said actions have consequences. You sow seeds and you bear fruit. The fruit of their labor is the homeless and drug addled who steal cars and wave knives around, the seed is suicidal empathy.

I didn’t say they deserved it. I said they earned it through the transitives of cause and effect.

There was overwhelming approval for Prop 47. Situations like this are the result of that.

And now? I’d rather not be the one at risk trying to “save the day” by killing people especially when I could just….leave

From what I’m reading the guy walked in, his throat was slit open or he was bleeding a lot and he was running through the main area and back of house, but didn’t say anything to anyone or directly threaten anyone.

Honestly that’s a pretty normal Tuesday for LA. There’s crackheads everywhere doing crackhead stuff.

Stay in school kids: To deserve means to be worthy of or to have earned something based on your actions, qualities, or situation.

Should also point out that prop 47 has been dismantled and also didn't apply to violent crime.

It was dismantled a decade after soiling society. It may have not applied to violent crime, but violent criminals were able to operate with impunity and moved accordingly.

It got so bad as people stealing $949 worth of goods from stores, brazenly. Open drug use, smash and grab robberies. Not exactly a good idea to enable.

Still, you’re putting words in my mouth. You’re free to cling to the polarization of the group.

I see it the same way that a homeless drug addict deserves their situation. Only difference is I’m not lambasting anyone for not letting them sleep in their spare room to “save the day.”

So I’ll say society deserved it. We all share the sin, and we all fan the flames. I still don’t think having to kill someone is a heroic act. It’s a sad result of an even sadder existence.

I’m not going to hide behind a mask about it.

We can agree to disagree. I don’t care.

For fun look up the felony theft limit in texas (it's 2500). Society didn't fall apart because of that and it's unrelated to this situation

Yeah, the expansion from bars, in the original proposed language, to any place that serves alcohol was very disappointing.

Obvs you should not drink while carrying. And there’re legitimate law enforcement reasons/interests for keeping firearms out bars.

But any restaurant with a beer/wine or liquor license while allowing CCW at restaurants without? There’s no logic there …
Heading to Nevada this weekend so I looked up their respective CCW laws. I didnt know NV allows you to carry at a bar and have a few drinks as long as your not over 0.08%

Texas has constitutional carry with well known property protection rights. You can shoot someone for trying to steal from you there. The threat of violence stops crime, not the empathetic reach toward a human’s good nature like how California operates. If you shoot someone trying to steal here you go to prison for murder.

Doesn’t make sense to compare that to California, at all.

Prop 47 was a net negative for the betterment of society at large, and absolutely a contributor to instances like the shooting in Cerritos.

And yet no blood in the bars 🤷🏻‍♂️

One of the things I like about CCW in NV. Less regulation besides the standard govt buildings.

UT is silent about bars too AND allow those with a CHL to carry on school grounds.

If the same situation happened at an education place or government building instead of a resteraunt would that change anything as far as ccw person being a hero

It makes even more sense than you can imagine because the property crime rate in Texas is the same as California's and they have a higher violent crime rate and a higher homicide rate. The property crime rate in CA increased 2.1% following prop 47 but there was a larger increase after 2011 when the state was court ordered to release prisoners due to massive overcrowding and an even larger increase during covid. Overall while prop 47 is correlated with some negative outcomes with the positive outcome of saving the state close to 1 billion dollars, those outcomes are still similar for property crime and significantly less in violent crime than a "tough on crime" state like Texas. Texas is actually one of the least violent red states, it gets much worse as you go down the list. The pandemic caused a pretty big blip in the statistics but they did that everywhere. Overall the entire country and especially Los Angeles is significantly safer today than in the early 90s when the homicide rate was 400% higher. If you actually want to solve these problems you will have to do better than just making 💩 up blame.

That makes sense at first blush untill you take into consideration what california even considers a violent crime and that cal is pretty bad at even recording crimes at all.

Bro it used to be bad when people googled 💩 and posted an article they didn't a understand but posting an AI summary is literally retarded
