Pretty much why I don't hunt. Dont have the time or money. Other than hunting as an exercise to be able to provide food if I had to, and healthier nutritional benefits, I'd rather let somebody else kill and butcher my food so I could buy it cheaper and faster than doing it myself. Modern conviences and all. More power to those that hunt. I applaud the effort they put in. That being said. My buddy is going to start putting in for a deer tag in the X zones and I said I'd join him as a party. So I may go hunting again sometime in the future.

In town there was a taxidermy place right next to a wild meat packing place. I wanted the head mounted and steaks cut up.

Since it was before hunting season both places said no. Total waste and I had $3000 of damage to the car.

I would hunt with lead if given the choice but copper works fine, some people even prefer it. You just have to pay attention to your loads and velocities but 308 and 6.5 cm are lethal past 400 yards with several different loads. I even developed a 6 arc load that is good past 400 yards.

People don't give up their public land hunting spots on online forums because they worked for those spots. No one does that.

Yea, but don't advocate shooting in BLM land if people don't want to share.

Also don't cry when non-BLM shooters don't give a fck about chance of BLM land getting sold or otherwise.

Keep a bear tag with you next time? It would be nice to harvest a black bear.

That was my first time in that part of D11 and and bear sightings are rare. But, I'll definitely get a bear tag this season just to be safe.

B zone is crawling with bears, so much so that CDFW is letting people get 2 tags per year now. I'm fine with sharing that info because there's plenty of bears to go around haha

In '68 I went to Texas with my Mexican bud's family, Kingsville. His uncle's bud's dad worked on the King ranch, the largest ranch in the US, and got us permission to hunt on their dirt. We could only take bunny rabbit and Javelina. I shot 112, mostly cotton tails and a few jacks (they made tamales out of those) and one hombre kilt a Javelina. PAX

I have a couple of shooting spots near Mammoth that always have a group of deer walking into my area, some right in front of my targets. It's like they are messing with me.

I go coyote hunting pretty often, upland game when it’s in season too. It’s really nice that the coyotes are open season all year.

People in California are much different with guns than where I grew up.

It’s all very tactical and defense oriented here. Lots of pistol shooting. From my experience people go shooting to blow off steam with rifles, or they’re shootings pistols.

There’s for sure a small pocket of middle aged guys doing precision shooting. I see them at Angeles range Sunday mornings. They shoot these complex looking bench rifles so probably not for hunting.

I use .223 for coyote and have a very long barrel varmint style AR for that. I put a huge brake on it so I can spot my shot placement at 25x through the glass and follow up quickly. It’s pretty loud, but I’m shooting for one and done

People comment on it here and there and when I bring up hunting most of the time the conversation starts to get quiet like they are uncomfortable to ask questions.

It’s weird but I think people don’t know you can just walk into the woods and go hunting. But that’s probably an effect of the myriad of goofy laws for guns here though.

I was once bicycling with a friend out on the levees at the south end of the bay around Alviso. We were both surprised to find two guys hunting birds with shotguns.

Really accurate but kind of expensive almost $2.50 per round
