Feedback Closed Poll Emoji's in the Classifieds Section! - Keep them or Disable them in Classifieds?

IF they stay, then we need those posting in the classifieds to acknowledge that listing an item with what someone else may consider an above market price, they may be subject to others expressing their opinion with emojis and not complain like small female dogs.

I still contend that most who post emjois are not someone who wants the item but rather just expressing their unhappiness with their non-existent slush fund for guns. AKA The Poors.

As ikea ooops ikeo stated if it is restricted in classified it's restricted in all forums. So, I say again keep them. I want to know if I Fup or stepped over the line and correct it when I can, and I have. You have to take the good with the bad unless it is generally the same ones doing the negative emoji feedback. If I come across a really inflated price I just move on. Buyers should know if it is inflated and don't know why guys have to even leave a negative emoji. It should not hurt them it really is none of their business the price should be between the seller and potential buyer.

They're the minority, so its not really a big deal. And its not as bad as calguns, you can post kittens saving babies that have discovered the cure for cancer and they'll still dislike it.

Great idea, like the locking questions and comments feature.

You could also make using the "controversial" emojis a donor benefit, similar to the auto bump benefit.

I see emoji users without a donor badge or even any feedback, although we shouldn't censor new users, they should get limited emojis like what john_marsten suggested (And reduce spam from accounts whose sole existence is to react to posts).

Keep them enabled but maybe simplify? Just allow like and maybe a (hot deal)?

You know that’s the internet for ya..

70/30 so far. Just wanted to make sure I can point people to the most recent data. Let’s see how it changes, but there are some people who abuse it so I’ll see how we decide to handle that. That’s the one constructive thing about these posts. Some people point out some things I don’t see.

Emoji's are a nice subtle way to let someone know they are likely gouging. But, I'm all for making it an option they can disable by becoming a paying member. Maybe you should add that as a third option.

Overall they don’t bother me, but since you asked….It seem like there’s a member here or two who like to comment negatively with emojis on sellers adds. It’s like they spend all day looking for adds they think are overpriced. Who made them the authority of what things should be selling for? I say to them, if you don’t like the price, it’s obviously not for you. It’s the seller’s discretion to choose what they wish to ask for it. Move on and do something else productive with your day.

I strongly feel the emojis in the classified section are a negative distraction. I don't mind emojis that could be perceived as 'negative', like a head exploding, but giving someone a red thumbs down, and have it stick with the ad going forward, is quite honestly unfair.

To those that say it regulates the marketplace, I disagree. The market will regulate the marketplace.

If you go into a gun store, and the salesperson is an , you don't walk out and graffiti "U Suck" on the front window. You just don't go back. And if the guy was having a bad day, it won't affect the store. But if enough people don't go back, the store will close.

If you don't like a price, move on. Eventually a smart seller will see, wow, I have had 247 views, but no one is watching my ad--something is wrong.

I actually posted in my ad a respectful plea to stay out of my thread if not interested. Do you know how many palm to face, and puking ewww, or thumbs down emojis I received? People are not being constructive. They are being hateful.

In the end, this is a community. Communities work when people pick each other up and support each other. I would appreciate a respectful DM from the moderator that said, Hey brother I think maybe you've missed the price point here, rather than anonymous heckling.

There’s a couple of things. This isn’t a store. Stores have MSRP, if they are listing 2-3x above people do talk about it. This was why I was looking at possibly removing the emojis for a fee.

Also it’s not anonymous, you can see who they are and their reputation.

We also don’t want mods doing that it adds way too much work for volunteers on a free site. People are also argumentative and say it’s their product it’s not our business and it isn’t.

The emojis are self regulated by the community. If one person does it negatively, they lose reputation if 8 other people give it a thumbs up.

There’s abuse and we address that by removing all emojis for those who do it out of spite or have a specific pattern that’s brought to our attention. Again the community calls it out. Emojis don’t block a determined buyer who knows the value of things but will make a newb second guess which is the purpose. It’s also a message to the seller if they have over 10 pricey that it’s pricey and should likely be repriced. We don’t want things to linger here. Also majority want a method to provide feedback but we don’t allow thread crapping.

If we didn’t allow thread crapping people would complain about it. They are in the majority and people want us to take the flack for things where we KNOW it’s overpriced. The emoji is a compromise. Making it a paid feature is another compromise that I think I’ll look into. We have nearly 30k users so you can imagine the noise we get and how much it’ll continue to grow when we get to 50-60k.

I think the gun community get's way too butthurt about people commenting on their prices, especially for a group of people that likes to claim they are the "anti-snowflakes" in society.

People post cars for stupid prices on forums/Facebook and people tell them "what kind of crack are you smoking" and the poster either ignores it, tries to justify it or lowers his price.

And here I see people complaining over EMOJIS just because people find it ludicrous they want $5K for a used Staccato.

And both in this thread and the previous one people used the "gun store' analogy. If a gun store has stupid prices, I am telling everyone who asks me about that gun store about their stupid prices. For Caguns, I wouldn't be surprised if a potential buyers version of asking "is this a good price" is "Let me see the emojis and if other people think it is overpriced"

Emoji culture has spread to the calguns classifieds as well; lol price gougers beware, emojis are inescapable now. I’ve been seeing a lot of emojis on pricey calguns listings too, an emoji we’ve disallowed here.

For better or for worse, it’s clear people want to express themselves and overwhelming majority polling reaffirms that. If we are to allow the community what it wants, emojis are a more civil compromise on price feedback than threadcrapping.
