Emojis are nothing more than the dumbing down of our wonderful English language. Get rid of them!

There are nearly 4000 recognized emojis. And learning what they all mean is a pain in the ass. It’s as bad as trying to learn the Chinese language where there are over 100,000 different characters. And you’ve got to know at least 3500 of them just to be able to read a newspaper.

Emojis are a huge step backwards in communication. They should never be used.

We can say anything we want using just 26 letters and a handful of punctuation marks. Let’s not continue going backwards.

So what do you mean by using that emoji? Are you ill and throwing up? Did you drink too much? Are you disgusted with something I said? Etc., etc.

I just looked this up. 54% of Americans are below the 6th grade level of education.’ And 21% of Americans are functionally illiterate. That’s nearly a quarter of our population. It’s no wonder emojis are so popular.

I don’t care if some people like them. We should not use them. Their use promotes illiteracy.

Pretty easy to understand why the emojis are used in their contexts. Maybe you should really think about which group of reading level you are in if you cant figure it out. Since so many people are so low on education we better dismantle the department of education. That will help

I was reading at college level in the second grade. And when I took an IQ test at Stanford University, when I was young, I scored 165. That’s “exceptionally gifted”.

I also got my engineering degree without any college and worked for 30+ years as a principal engineer at various start ups, inventing new technologies to save people’s lives. If you ever have a heart attack, the doctors will use one or more of my inventions to save your life. I also have over 200 patents.

I see emojis for what they are. They cater to the lowest common denominator.

One out of every four people you run across in this country is functionally illiterate. I know. I used to volunteer teaching them to read.

Emojis remain a very dumb idea. They are moving society backwards with respect to language fluency.

When > 70% are in favor it’s prudent for us to listen to the community plus less issues from a complaint perspective. When we didn’t allow thread crapping people complained and they complain when you allow emojis.

You're correct in a few ways.

The problem is people overwhelmingly want an outlet. I have an enhancement that's in development. Sellers will have the option to Lock Reactions with a subscriber account. If they don't want to hear it, they can donate to the site. Its usually higher priced anyways, so it'll cost them to price out of the norm. It's a minimal cost and I would consider a win/win...

Folks would still be able to identify the listing because you would not be able to leave a reaction or perhaps a "Locked Reactions" notification. I'm still working out the details.

We don’t have the option to split between classifieds and forums, they use the same emojis. So if we remove from classifieds we’ll remove from the forums.

Oh right! You mentioned that for being the reason we don’t have the laugh emoji…

personally, I don’t even pay attention to emojis on WTS ads. I’m more interested in comments if anything and seller description.

In all honesty, the emoji's won't directly impact you. It's mainly in the classifieds section where people have been over pricing their glocks. I think there was a $12k glock. We don't allow text thread crapping which is why the emoji's are a compromise. When people thread crap, using comments its a lot worse. Subscribers are able to lock questions and comments and this is the logical next step to close off the questions I've been getting about it.

We've also had more on the case side, which is also something we'll be addressing soon. I have a feature coming in the next month or two that I think people will really like but that's TBD. We try to have a balance here for all different kinds of people. So everyone mostly has a way to do something.

I find many emojis to be low-effort and passive-aggressive, and I think some minimum rep and/or membership duration should be required to leave an emoji on an ad.

In the end, I don't care if something is overpriced. I prefer to talk to the seller to see what's what. It becomes evident quickly when someone is unreasonable. Sometimes people are just seeing what the market will bear...nothing wrong with that.

Ikeo: I appreciate your comments. I just hate emojis for the reasons I’ve already expressed.

I feel the same way about videos recorded in portrait mode. And I blame cell phones, and to a lesser degree, computers for the messes we have today.

"Have a nice day." Was always followed by or with a smiling emoji.

It’s either locked or not. Not restricting it to paid members, they can restrict it on their listing.

Armory is also very different to what’s out there.. https://realgafs.com is a different approach. I don’t limit myself to a failed idea. I fail often and fast and move on. We’ll try again later, for now I have a few other projects I’m working on . Lots of things are cooking rn

I’m going to move around the sprites. The classifieds emojis are the same as the forum, so I prefer to have more. I’ll be making a custom list from the default ones now that I know how to make them.
