FFL's that do PPT's for $47.19

This was for a new purchase, not a PPT, so the additional $10 does not apply.

Only PPT's have price controls.

They can add any amount they want on guns coming out of their inventory.
There are no rules on that whatsoever.

Some of ffls just stupidly invested themselves into cable locks that they now placed it into policy to get you to buy a lock.

Federal law requires firearm importers, manufacturers, and dealers to provide a secure storage or safety device, such as a trigger lock, with every handgun sold.
That is why FFLs require locks with handgun PPTs.

Try Praxis. Did one there last year and it was pretty quick and easy.

Yeah I get it. It’s just ty to charge a “handling” fee when it’s a big box store selling its own inventory. But I suppose they’re trying to make up for the thin margins on those sales however they can.

So far Outdoor Sportsman in Stockton is the only one I've been to that charges for storage for every day after the 10 day period you dont pick up, no NOT after the 30 day but the required 10 day. It rubbed me the wrong way because they waited to tell me that after the paperwork was submitted. So if you are a working man and cant pick up exactly on that tenth day between the time you DROS'd and closing time they will tax that a$$.

Under California law, gun shops are restricted on how much they can charge for doing a private party transfer. If they do it right it should come out to $47.19. But I've gone into shops that make me buy a lock, charge for credit card use, charge for storage (this hasn't happened to me but to someone else), or some other charge. I know under the REVIEWS tab we have a list of FFL's that we like. But I'm talking just by price, which FFL's do you know of charge $47.19 for a PPT? You can throw in some bad one's to avoid if you'd like.

The gun community in Cali is small so I like being a valued customer anywhere I go. It goes a long way. I’ve gotten free magazines, bumped up on the waitlist for an allocation, etc.

J&R Sports in Livermore - $48 Verified with personal experience. I’ve done one PPT with them. Read about their reputation for doing very fast walk-in PPT’s. They lived up to it. Don’t know if there’s any storage fees b/c I picked mine up right away.

LC Action Police Supply in San Jose - My home FFL. $48 Verified with personal experience. Takes walk-ins and faster than J&R(but I think that’s because they probably memorized all my info already from so many transactions lol) They’ve given me free locks for all the PPT’s and transfers I’ve done with them as well. I can’t say if they’ll do the same for you because I have extensive purchase history with them. The latest I’ve ever picked up was day #20 post DROS and no storage fees.

J&R Sports in Livermore - Verified with personal experience. I’ve done one PPT with them. Read about their reputation for doing very fast walk-in PPT’s. They lived up to it. Don’t know if there’s any storage fees b/c I picked mine up right away.

I can’t say if they’ll do the same for you because I have extensive purchase history with them so that’s probably something they just do for repeat customers. The latest I’ve ever picked up was day #20 post DROS and no storage fees.

I hear lots of good things about J&R. I called them while looking for an FFL to transfer at and they seem to be the only spot where they will do PPT any day that they're open, any time as long as its before one hour prior to close.

Camarillo Gun Store and Greta's. CGS wait times depend on how busy they are but I just did a PPT yesterday, we came in at around 3:05 and we were done by 3:20pm. They also accept Credit/Debit Cards for PPT. I've heard some places insist on cash for the fees. No biggie to have $50 in your pocket but boosts the convenience factor for sure.

I tip based on the gun’s value and what kind of peace of mind I want for the 10 day wait. For example, I did a PPT at J&R supply for my first Atlas, a brand new and unfired Artemis. All 3 employees said this is their first time seeing an Atlas and being that I don’t know any of them and it’s my only transaction with them, I tipped all 3 employees present $20 each. I did it because I told them I don’t want anyone touching it, racking it, or checking it out of the bag. Whether they did any of that or not, I will never know. But I got peace of mind out of it and got my gun without any issues.

For my home FFL, I’m not worried about my guns. But I tip them better for treating me like family. The things they’ve done for me in my firearms journey outvalues whatever I give them. I have the staff’s and owner’s son’s personal # and they’ll go out of their way sometimes at 2am to get me what I need.

I asked if I can lock the case and they said “no, because if DOJ comes in they’ll cut it off and we will get dinged for a violation” I don’t know if any of that is true (maybe a dealer can confirm?) but at that time it was a red flag for me because my home FFL lets me lock all my PPT’s cases.

I would be ok with the DOJ cutting the lock off my case on the off chance the DOJ actually shows up for an inspection.
It's a chance I would be willing to take, and I would just buy a new lock.

But knowing what I know now, my own experience, and reading enough reviews of J&R, I would not hesitate to do another PPT there

Firearms Unknown opened the wrapper, locked the gun, and said they don't accept returns on used locks. It wasn't too much of an extra expense but I didn't like the attitude.

So, that's false arrest of your gun!

I would have definitely asked a few questions before I walked out the door and reported them.

Personally, any gun stores in Burbank can never be considered Best for PPTs. They don't release on Undetermined, which is best to screw out the buyers in a PPT transaction.

This is a very important point that should be factored into any gun purchase. I would never DROS a gun anywhere that does not release on undetermined. It would be the first question I would ask the dealer.

If they get inspected by ATF, they will do a inventory and they will need to see the gun. That is true and so just telling the ATF the gun is in there might not cut it (pardon the pun). I usually don't open guns until the customer does even though we are supposed to look at the serial number. On a PPT, I do not have the time or energy to take your gun out to the range, you know completely ignoring how wrong that is. At the end of the day it is a PPT. If you are that worried about me taking your gun out, go PPT somewhere else. I have always found those people kind of funny. Assuming you would ever end up in my no where town during my crappy hours. I try to treat PPTs well because if you do that, they will buy something else or return.

And with that, you can put Westside Arms as $47.19 for PPT with $10 each additional gun and no other fees except FSC if you do not have an exception. I simply provide all guns with a lock so there is no additional cost or paperwork (I hate the safe affidavit). And we release on undetermined.
