FFL's that do PPT's for $47.19

like to my knowledge the law as read, doesnt require the person getting the firearm to use it, just that its given to them? but a safe affidavit doesnt cover it?

Come On What GIF by MOODMAN
The safe affidavit is a CA thing, nothing in the federal law about it nor any means to document a safe. It is a bad law.

When the lock is included with the sale of the firearm, no separate 30 day receipt is needed since the sale of the firearm WITH the lock is the receipt. This one didn't violate federal law since the firearm came with a lock.

Yes, the transfers without a lock for a handgun violated federal law. Since there are no recordkeeping requirements, it is unlikely they will be caught though, but they really should be educated so that they don't end up with a problem.
Yeah after looking at the relevant regulations it appears all 3 of the FFLs I’ve done transactions with in the last 6mo have gotten this wrong. All have allowed safe affidavits in lieu of locks for handguns.

Thanks for confirming. No one said anything about being worried about staff will take the gun to the range.
There was a FFL who admitted to taking customer guns to the range and shoot them. He claimed it was no different than manufacturer. He was/is clueless, but at least he isn't a FFL anymore. He also told of a story where he had a rack on long guns right next to the door, not secured in any way. Yes, someone came in and grabbed many of them and ran off. I think that the person got caught, and at least that convinced him to not be as stupid, well, at least not in that specific way.

if a gun is locked in a safe i think it would qualify to cover the CSLA requirement? since that would be secure gun storage
Nope. It has nothing to do with what occurs AFTER the firearm leaves the dealer. The federal law has NO means of allowing an exemption if the person owns a safe. It is a really bad law.

The last time I PPT’d a gun there were 2-3 employees that were intrigued and asked to hold/dry fire it (which I said yes to of course). But I threw a lock on the case while they held it for 10 days because I sure as hell am NOT going to let the LGS employees have fun with my gun at the range before I pick it up…

If your dude was still an FFL I’d say name and shame them…. No point now I guess but that is really shady

One issue is that if they have an inspection, they will need to open the case, so a lock on the firearm itself is better. It is a shame that you have to do that though.

Quite some time back I had a friend get upset with me. I had a firearm that he was interested in and I refused to let him see or touch it. He didn't get that I am responsible for it and will not take any chances. If it got dropped, scratched somehow, or even if it didn't, but had damage to it, it is far easier to say that it was never moved nor touched, then well, I pulled it out, but didn't damage it.

It really wasn't even close to being "my dude". He just happened to be another FFL on a FFL forum and was someone that no one should ever deal with. He claimed to give lifetime warranties on Glocks, but refused to put it in writing. He bad mouthed a customer who wanted it in writing and refused to buy from him when he wouldn't. It was a very good day when he gave up his FFL.

Wait your friend wanted to buy a gun from you but you didn’t trust them enough to even TOUCH it? What chances are you taking? Don’t people generally handle/dry fire guns before purchasing? This comment confuses me

It was for transfer to another person. It wasn't for sale. Actually, many people order firearms and they never see or touch the firearm before ordering and paying.

Would you want a FFL allowing someone else to touch the firearm that you are transferring?

Ah, I misunderstood. And yes I know many people buy guns without seeing/touching, I thought you meant you were doing a FTF PPT and didn’t want the buyer to touch it or dry fire it. My bad, carry on

I saw somebody say "multiple disposition fee of $60." So if I buy multiple guns it's 47.19 +60.00 + 10 per gun after the first?

I just called Sportsman's in Elk Grove to see if they do PPT's. He asked which gun and after letting him know it was an off roster from the 1990s, he warned me that if it came back as undetermined, it would be turned over to law enforcement and the seller couldn't get it back. Said something about not having a consignors license or something like that. Just a warning for others that might do a PPT at Sportsman's.

The cheapest PPT I've ever done was Phantom Arms in HB. Did a PPT there few weeks ago and was charged $37.19, although I have to mention their shop is closing down could be why.

Another great place is Riflenetics in Garden Grove, CA. Super chill little new shop. They also release on undetermined. But call before going.
We miss David over at Phantom, he charged $37.19 for all DROS PPT or not. His FSC's were also $15. Such a shame to loose them, he couldn't keep up all the fees do to his generosity. 🫡

So he ran a for profit gun store like a non profit..... then closed down.... that check out.
To make only $10 on a PPT or $10 for doing a FSC is almost nothing..... but its something....

That's wild. At that point it's cheaper to do 2 separate transactions.
So pretty sure they have no legal right to charge that... maybe if they even charged it to customer that buy from them and not just PPT's.....
That said... The Law is 2 or more firearms delivered in a 5 day period..... Would be curious if you did one today and one in a few days if they would still try to charge you the fee.

BEEFT in Palmdale: $47.19

Camarillo Gun Store: $47.19 - Funny enough, they labeled the line item for the transfer as “Theft.” Got a good laugh out of that one.

RifleGear in Fountain Valley: $47.19 - They did require me to purchase a gun lock for about $6 since we didn’t have one. Otherwise $47.19
