Glock or Smith?

You own a Saab convertible… I can tell you just like niche things. “Oooo it’s different”

I value reliability over everything. At least my Glock will still run and fire without lubbing after thousands of rounds (I’ve tried it) meanwhile I wouldn’t trust a Swedish convertible, let alone be proud of the fact that I own one lol
Pretty much all the modern polymer striker fired guns from reputable brands are very reliable. Glock is not more reliable and I'd argue HK are actually more reliable long term than Glocks. They just have that reputation because old guns were not as reliable when Glock hit the scene and legacy brands maintain these reputations unless opinion changes.

Even cheaper guns are still pretty reliable these days. If you like Glock enjoy it but it's false to say they're more reliable than other mainline makes in 2026. Ironically the new gen models have had some reliability issues like the one HonestOutlaw had on his channel

Or I have money and time to enjoy things. If you think my SAAB is anything but a toy, oof good on you bud.

I had a Saab once upon a time...a 2009 9-3 Aero XWD and that thing was fun...

Wouldn't mind a 2008-2009 Aero convertible once I have a house with a garage. Those cars are lookers.

I am so happy I sold my Saab Convertible, lmao it was cool but they are not built well

No, they weren't very well built and it was one problem after another for me. They are cool cars and drives pretty well but they aren't well build and by the time I got my the parts were hard to get. Mechanics who knows them are also low in numbers.

Family has had ours since new. Walk out and turn the key fire up and off we go. I'm getting ready to put it on a lift and rip all the suspension out. Min nanny 💩, no modem, no call home, no screens. Its just nice to drop the top and go through Laguna then back out Ortega. Not fast, just out enjoying life.

Front wheel drive, old European convertible… I think it’s more of a weird niche DIY project car than an actual fun toy that normal people would actually enjoy lol probably spent more time wrenching on it than driving. But whatever floats your boat champ
Maybe he loves Seinfeld.

Some parts are a complete pain in the ass for sure. Mechanics in SoCal are still easy enough if you can wait. I am going to be fighting with Tech 2 and that is going to piss me off. Its an 00 so I don't have to fight the CAN-bus thank Christ.

Glocks aren't any more reliable than any of the other modern plastic guns. I've seen them fail as much as any others, in a match recently my whole squad was LE and they were all shooting mostly stock gen 5 and 6 Glocks and literally 3 of them had catastrophic failures and were out of the match. One oem guide rod just straight broke, another one wouldn't feed and another got a round stuck in the barrel and we had to stop for 10 minutes while they carefully extracted a stuck live round from a disassembled barrel. All guns can have issues but they are all generally very reliable these days, such that reliability isn't even a consideration these days.
Hmmm . . . I'm gonna guess maybe maintenance issues?? Seems like a lotta Glocks to fail in one match. (not doubting, just seems like a lot)
How big is a squad anyway??

I'll see you on the Ortega...

I think it was probably 14 people that day including me but I think it was like 12 glocks and I had a 2011 that worked fine lol. It was actually surprising it's not typical to see three guns get replaced in one local match they just all happened to be Glocks. As far as maintenance, everybody keeps telling me you can just run glocks for 100k rounds without doing anything and they will be fine. But actually the recommended interval for a recoil spring change for a gen 5 is the same as a 1911 at 5000 rounds. Gen 3 supposedly was 2500 rounds recommended. You are right though every gun needs maintenance there's no magic that Glock has that puts them in a different category than the vast majority of their competitors.

I didn't have a Tech 2 but if you own a Saab these days you must have a Tech 2. Sometimes I wonder what it could have been if I had gone with a 9-5 Griffith I found locally instead of a 9-3 with a AWB/V6 since parts for the 9-5 are much more plentiful.

Do you have a Viggen by any chance?

That is an insane failure rate and makes me suspect poor maintenance. Good thing they failed in a match and not in the line of duty

Yeah mine was GM garbage, window regulators broken and windows falling down, other random stuff, leaking top. Expensive hard to find parts. Very happy I sold it. My Porsches were wayyyyy better built

we are lucky and right on the cusp. Two years newer and we would have dumped it at the first hiccup. GM did some really dumb 💩. But SAAB was also doing so down right full retard 💩 before they got bought out. So, not sure I blame GM for killing the badge.

Sorry to hijack the Saab thread, just wanted to do a range report on my Shield X. Picked it up today and ran about 100-150 rounds through it. Ran flawless and is a great little shooter. Recoil is minimal, very ergonomic, accurate gun overall. This is probably the first gun I've purchased in a while that doesn't need any aftermarket stuff whatsoever. The sights are great and I don't plan on adding a red dot. I've owned about a dozen Glocks over the years and I'll take the Shield X out of the box over any of them. S&W FTW this day.

For a CCW slimline pistol, which do you prefer / have better experiences with?

Glock 43X or S&W Shield (Shield Plus, Shield X)...
I’ll give you a dumb answer possibly? I love the 43x, and would prefer it to the shield plus.

As far as slim line in 45 I own a SW shield 2.0 in 45 and it’s a drastically smaller pistol than a 36.

At about 500 rounds, my shield X has been 100% reliable. Agree with your assessment, it’s very good straight out of the box. The only gripe I have is the slide release/stop that doesn’t work as a release very well. It’s easy enough to grab the slide and go, but it’s even easier to just thumb the release lever. My BG 2.0 has smoothed out beautifully, the X is still a little sticky. Hopefully another few hundred rounds will do the trick.

I think the entire MP line is that way. I have never had one that is what I would call nice. Some if not most have gotten easier, but never nice.
