I would think you'd know where that "quote" falls in their stated boundaries.
No, I do not know that. Or to be more accurate: I am pretty sure that the exact wording in that quote (for example the part about skulls, and the swear words) would not pass muster here, and ikeo1 just confirmed that. But should (and will) similar thoughts, if expressed in more erudite language, be accepted here? I think that is an important question, and the answer is not (yet?) clear to me.

We don't want politics because of that grey line. We want people to share what they have in common and be helpful to one another. This site is for people who's politics is not their personality first, they are a 2A enthusiast who wants to share knowledge or wants to learn from more experienced people. I look at snipershide as an example of a strict but scalable model.

This is a difficult balance. The sole reason we have the 2a in 2024 positioned to restore and maintain the right is because of politics and the results of voting for those who have the power to form the courts and suppress bad legislation. It’s obvious to everybody what Treelogger is lobbying for, it’s his internet calling card on multiple forums, he would like to escape criticism for voting for Democrats, but providing safe harbor for folks who actively undermine fundamental rights via their vote is hard to jive on a 2a forum. I agree we should apply decorum when appropriate but it’s absolutely true that one side of the political aisle continues to wage full scale war against our rights.
Imagine visiting a gay rights forum and advocating for the appointment of Westboro Baptists to moderator authority.

Working in the security industry, it's not one side. It's both sides. The Patriot Act was the single biggest blow to our rights we've ever had. As a direct result of that, the govt has access to everything you do on large companies and authority to demand from smaller ones. Many of the biggest AI companies are backed by both Left and Right with Right favoring Military and LEO contracts, Left favoring Social media etc. It's a facade to me, the illusion of choice. This space is an escape from the BS. That said, I still have to assume this site is monitored because of the content. Which is 100% of the reason why, we don't want politics. Fieldcraft got labeled a t* group because of the thing they said on their board. So, we want it to be purely educational and hobbyist/enthusiast. There's so many places to go for the other stuff.

I imagine a gay rights forum talking about gay things. Not religion. Unless they are a political forum, which we are not. ;)

I agree mostly, except that 2a rights are overwhelmingly one side, and this is a gun forum.

I know, that's what makes it difficult. My goal is to educate vs alienate. You ain't gonna get people to cross over if you don't teach them about it and how much fun they can have. Gotta change the stereotype.

This is also why I think CG needs to stick around, its really a different mindset. We want to take a more relaxed approach and not so dramatic. I don't want that vibe here, it really doesn't fit the goal I had in mind.

I would think you'd know where that "quote" falls in their stated boundaries. To me, it's intellectually dishonest to be asking and posting it, because again, I see that as trying to be sneaky and find a way to post the exact 💩 they've been crystal clear they don't want here. And especially from that particular douchebag who is notorious for 💩posting almost nonstop.
Probably the main reason why I am here is that I don't want to be part of a community that fosters users like that particular poster on Calguns. That's too much drama.

I think a vocal minority of gun owners are unable to hold a conversation about 2a once they find out the other person doesn't share their same exact beliefs. I've seen it happen so many times where it suddenly devolves into name calling commie/facist/whatever other flavor of the week -ist. Considering how a majority of californians are democrats, if we make gun rights a dem vs repub issue then gun rights here is dead. The only way forward that I see is for each of us to learn the skills to communicate the importance of 2a and hold a conversation with people who dont agree so that we can seperate 2a from party lines.

Would the following quote be worthy of moderating? If yes, should it be deleted, edited (bad words removed), the user warned, or banned?

And just to be 100% clear: I am quoting the above text not as an indication that I agree or disagree with it, simply as a didactic example of what moderation would have to deal with, and to reinforce the importance of the question "how do you want us to moderate". And make no mistake, the Calguns forum (from which the above is a snippet) is actually heavily moderated; as an example, a post made this morning at 10:33 by user SanDiego619 has been removed (already, it's only a little past 11). The above post is likely there because the moderators / owner want it to remain.

I mean; is any of what he said FALSE, or is it merely OFFENSIVE / scary to some people?

Personally, I don't have a problem with people sharing political views. The problem is some people are not capable of expressing political views while being objective and open to reasonable criticism. The trolls on Calguns often accuse me of "TDS" or being a "she" simply because I criticize their views when they are flawed. And they are deeply flawed. They don't realize that I'm actually on their side.

But I'm also aware that at this point in our history, the 2A is a deeply political issue. For the most part, the right supports it, and the left wants to abolish it, even though the left lies and says they just want "common sense" regulation. The left's approach is to increase regulation until they have the political power to abolish the right altogether.

Which is all the more reason why we need to bring more people into the community so they can become more informed about how destructive supporting a specific party is to the longevity of 2A rights. And I think the moderators of this site understand that there are those who just want to talk politics in a hyper-emotional way which leads to alienating those that we need to include in this community. The mods just want a chill 2A site without all the drama that comes with intense political discussion often leading to hateful posts about other groups such as younger generations, women, minorities, and gays. I support that vision.

It's obviously allowed there, so there's a place for it. I'd rather not have it here because like I said, I'd like people to use this place as a resource to learn and share with people who are new and introduce them to the sport or to the world of 2A. As a way to advocate for certain things.

It's like coffee or tea. Just because i don't choose one doesn't mean i'm offended, i might not like it because it's bitter to me. You can like both. I consider it preference.

We need a forum with no or very little moderation for the men to talk 💩 please.

With proper dogpiles and 10 page back and forth arguments about the stupidest 💩 imaginable.

Everything goes but threats or doxxing.

Like off topic on Calguns without the commie bans. The Bear Pit on snipers hide. General forum on Arfcom before it became gay. No PC bull💩, check your feelings at the door, type forum.

Thanks!

This place has so much potential I have a semi chub.

Love your sarcasm? But mods have made it clear this isn't that type of site.

I change my mind, I want this guy as top mod

This is exactly what CG is for. I’m focusing on my area of expertise in marketplace and education, while @DrJonesUSA is currently evaluating CGN. After that, either he can take it on or if it comes to me and I'll fix it then sell to someone in the community who’s interested in taking it over.

I don’t think they’re willing to pay for the expertise required. Honestly, the longer I’ve been in OT, I don’t feel like I’m the right fit to own it and its a liability for my other ventures. Thankfully, DrJones has generously offered his technical staff to help out. I’d also be open to doing contract work as a consultant.

Otherwise, I’d suggest DrJones would be a good person to carry the site forward. They like him a lot more than me. 🤣

I’ve been receiving messages from OGs about how much CG has changed. What I thought I was trying to save doesn’t seem to exist in the same way anymore.

It certainly has.

I joined in 2009 and it was an awesome hangout, so much so I happily ponied-up $300 to help keep things going. I got so much out of CalGuns, the $300 seemed cheap for the value received.

Now, not so much. The archived information is neat, though most is overrated IMHO due to it ageing-out due to changes in firearm tech, the laws, etc.

Sad to say there’s no way I’d give $$ to CalGuns today.

So it goes.

My original early-2000's login was lost to a laptop HD failure, and I couldn't remember what credentials I'd used to sign up. So I disappeared for over a decade. When I came back, it was a very different place. And then 2020 broke everyone's brains and I didn't even recognize CG any more, and the OT?

Dear god, while the rest of the site was teetering on the brink, someone yeeted the OT right off the cliff.

And while the info contained in CG's archive(s) was/is invaluable, the real resource there was the people who made up CalGuns. Most of them, as the site whithered on the vine, disappeared. More than a few stalwarts held on. But I can't stress enough how much everything there changed so drastically 4 years ago.

Ikeo was trying to do the lord's good work, and trying to keep that place functional. And in return, all that he got was 💩 on, and from great height. He's a decent enough dude that I'm sure if Kes reached out, he'd still help, but part of me wonders if that place and those people are too far off on the horizon to find their way back.

Heck, I'd be interested in buying and running it but I don't have the first foggiest idea of how to do that, and unless it provided an income enough to make up for lost overtime wages, I couldn't afford to either.

I donated more to CG itself more than I have any other place in the last 18 years I bet, and that's not even including back when CGF, etc. seemed to be doing good things and money I sent to them. I've made real-life lifelong friends on there and am bummed out that it sucks now.

The idiots crapping on ikeo in OT are...well...idiots. And entertainment to me.

"I'm here to help, please let me help"

"F you, liberal. Do you love trump?"

People are so wrapped up in idiocracy it's just devolved to being entertaining, unfortunately.
