How many guns does it take to be considering having “too much”

"Too much" is when your collecting has a seriously negative effect on your (or your family's) finances, relationships, or living conditions. I'm certain that I'm not the only person here who has seen someone slip into that. So I don't buy into "there is never too many", but it's obviously a personal matter and not a specific number. Also the fact that they are firearms is incidental, as people get in these unhealthy cycles with all sorts of products and hobbies.

TLDR spend some time with the degenerates on /r/gundeals and then try to tell me there shouldn't be a legal limit

That number often elicits a physical reaction from them.

Other numbers will draw comments or reactions, but that seems to be the magic number that makes people's stomachs turn.

As others have pointed out, the correct answer is "it depends". I'd imagine a collector can easily get to 100 without duplicates. Although I'm not a collector, your poll capping at 31+ has me re-evaluating some personal life decisions.

To answer your question and play the game: it would either be 3 or 5.

I think almost all people who tolerate another's 2A would understand having 3. More than 5 seems to be when eyebrows get raised. You'll either get "why do you need so many?" from liberals or "are you even proficient with any?" from conservatives. Enjoy and don't look back! Looking at my list, I struggle to reduce my stable to under 15.

You're done once you've collected 1 of each.

I think the threshold for "too many guns" is around 15,872. Above that, it's ridiculous.

I think you should add a 50 and 100+.
People respond very differently to 30 vs 50 vs 100+ but generally anything over 100 gets the same reaction, no?

This number is personal. I cannot tell you how much is too much for you, but I sure can tell how much it is for me. For me if I start to go broke, or run out of space, or forget what I have, then that is too much. For me. And for me that is not even a fixed number. It is a number dictated by circumstances. Not by some stupid law or anything else.

It all depends on your POV.

In some respects I have too many, due in part to getting quite a few when a family member passed away, but then again, there are several firearms that I would like to get, so I have both too many as well as not enough.

There was one post which said 500 could be too many, but in the case of a collection, in regards to history, that wouldn't be close to near enough to have a really good historic collection. So for one person that wouldn't be close to being enough, and for others it would be too many. It is all relative to the person, making it completely meaning less.
