I assume he thinks all speech is protected and by that logic all gun laws are infringements, so just ask if he thinks felons after finishing their sentences in prison should own guns, or mentally ill people ect. Yet to operate a deadly vehicle (far more likely to kill others than your constituionally God granted CCW) essentially no training is required and an unbelievably easy test..... make it make sense. The only legal argument I could see is going to the open carry permit-less and a tougher CCW license for concealed.

My opinion for driving is near the same too, I just didn't bring it up because this is a gun forum and not a car forum. Don't assume

Part of the challenges in making CCW qualifications more demanding is that very quickly they will exceed the requirements of sworn law enforcement.

Alameda County already requires CCW applicants to pass the very same range test their sworn Deputies must pass.

Logically anything more stringent for CCW applicants should apply to law enforcement throughout the State.

I suspect there - as usual - would be a law enforcement exemption for such things. Unions being powerful as they are, and law enforcement already being deeply challenged to fill the ranks. I'm surprised how many people voted "rigorous". This is a Constitutional right, not a privilege. Can't tell you how many old grandmas I sold a firearm to who just wanted something to be able to carry to keep themselves safe. Should an 80 year old lady be denied the right to defend herself because she can't qualify expert marksman with her little 380? At the absolute MOST, I'd say pass a basic criminal history check to get a carry permit. Ideally, a carry permit doesn't even exist because you shouldn't need permission to exercise your rights.

And it's kind of crazy Alameda county does that, since officers are in shootouts far different than what a citizen needs to engage in for self defense. We aren't going offensive like they are. Why do you need to be able to shoot a micro .380 at 25 yards to defend yourself from a mugger 3 feet away?
