Weiss in Docket No. 1:23-cr-00061-MN in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware and Docket No. 2:23-CR-00599-MCS-1 in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

Thanks for posting the text of the pardon. Now let's look closely at the fourth through seventh words "against the United States" and consider what those words mean.

They're a pretty big limitation on the scop of the pardon. Nothing in that document pardons Hunter for offenses that he has committed against any of the 50 states, or of the local jurisdictions within those states. It's only his conduct "against the United States" that has been pardoned.

The Constitution does not permit the President to issue pardons for offenses committed against the states.

I'm not familiar with the laws of all states, but if his conduct were to have occurred in California, there would be ample opportunity for the AG or a DA to file charges, and without regard to the Presidential Pardon.

With regard to the offenses of possessing a firearm while being a drug user, and lying on the Form 4473, Hunter would be liable to California state charges under essentially the same circumstances. Penal Code section 29800(a)(1) covers the possession of a firearm while being a drug addict, and Penal Code section 118 covers the making of a false statement on the California Dealer Report of Sale Form.

I thought it was common knowledge that his potentially most relevant crime(s) are against the USA. Ie Burisma, corruption with foreign governments and compromising national security etc
They want to make it seem like he’s being pardoned mainly for taxes and the form that everybody (not me) lies on

But the nature of the pardon is basically pre-emptive immunity from the major scandals and another layer of protection for “the big guy”
