Has anyone recently done there App through LAPD? , if so did you do the training course before the interview?

Do it after they tell you to do so. The faster you upload it, the quicker typically. It generally depends on the BI. Most are fast

LAPD does not care, every permit I have had through them I have submitted training at time of application so my process is quicker. The only reason they suggest waiting is so if you fail livescan, they change training provider, etc. you can't motherless 🐐 at them. If you know you are good to go I would schedule it prior to your interview.

By their own admission they accept training certificates up to 6 months prior.

Generally, we request you wait until you have an appointment scheduled before obtaining your live scan. Please use the live scan form on the LAPD website, or the CCW Unit will not receive the results from the Department of Justice. If you use the incorrect form, you will have to resubmit the correct form and pay a second time for the service.

Training certificates will only be accepted from Training Providers on our approved list and dated no earlier than 6 months before your interview date.

I’m going to schedule the classes then , my background check was completed already from DOJ, FBI, and the firearms. And I know I’m good since I never had any issues with LEO or had any court appearances

The Detective assigned to my application told me to take the class when I sat down for the interview with him.

You can take it before, but I would wait until the interview, even if you're not worried about background check. As FCRII mentioned above, they change the provider list without warning, and if yours is removed before your interview, you'll be SOL. It doesn't happen a lot, but it does actually happen.

For my initial application, I scheduled my class for the weekend after my interview. I was in a class with a buddy who also had LAPD as his IA, but his interview was 3 weeks after the class. I submitted my certificate immediately after the class. 2 weeks later, my provider was dropped from the LAPD list because they had a Zoom classroom portion (apparently LAPD audits providers and this was not allowed) ... which meant when my buddy got approved to submit his training, his certificate was no longer useful. He was able to get into another class without issue and he didn't get held up much, but it's another $400 that he had to shell out.

LAPD authorized training providers was just updated on 10/6/2026 so I would take a look and make sure your provider is still on the list.
