One in the chamber or no?

It’s my opinion - based on decades of experience, research, and thinking, that you have no business being around firearms if one in the chamber terrifies you.
You are certainly free to do as you choose, and I’m free to have an opinion about it.
:)
It's not that deep, many shooters do not even CCW at all let alone daily. If they just want to shoot at the range, pack up and go home and that's all they do, let them have their hobby. To say you need to either not have guns at all or be a sponsored pro shooter/ John Wick Navy SEAL DEVGRU operator is a dumb false dilemma.

And even if they do CCW without condition 1, it's their freedom to be dumb IMO. 99.8% chance they'll never have to fire their gun anyways.

100% this. The community doesn't need some weird gatekeeping. If people are being safe to others let them enjoy the hobby how they see fit.

EXACTLY!

While I may not be 100% as effective as those that chamber (close encounter attackers, etc), I will 100% more prepared for most other scenarios than those that do not carry. Again by choice to be "dumb"

Sorry that the truth offends you 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’m not offended at all. I agree with you that chambered is best for most. Just find it comical you think it’s even worth a preface of “I mean no offense” before being a 🍆. As if it makes a difference.

My father is a retired police detective and when he started carrying semiautomatic pistols he stated he never carried with one in the chamber due to accidental discharge. The training he did allowed him to rack one in seconds. I stated I personally carry one in the chamber due to being in a self defense situation I may not have time or a malfunction happening when I try to put a round in the chamber. Why chance that? Secondly if I invest in a good holster the odds of an accidental discharge due to my negligence is slim to none. What do you think? One in the chamber or no?
Not sure when he last worked, but departmental policy is to always carry loaded, full magazine (topped off) and spare magazines...

I think it boils down to the reason one wouldn't carry with one in the chamber

If it's due to fear of a negligent/accidental discharge, then one needs to do more training or keep the P320 at home and use a different firearm

If it's another reason like working around children, or a decision based on training or whatever, then have at it.

Whatever floats anyone's boat... I just don't like looking like this when I have to draw -

I’m confused by your comment. If we’re discussing people who do not CCW, why are we discussing those same people carrying without one in the chamber?
I thought we are discussing people who DO CCW, and choose to do so without one in the chamber…..? What did I miss?

And I never said people don’t have the right to carry stupid - without one in the chamber. Go ahead. Frankly, its for the best, since people like that have no business handling firearms anyway, so at least when they fumble & bumble their gun anywhere near me, there’s at least a slightly lesser chance I’ll get shot by them, if they are truly carrying unchambered (yes, all guns are always loaded but for the sake of this argument….)

People can do what they want; we are all also free to have opinions about other people’s actions. :-)

I’m not being a 🍆; I’m expressing an honest opinion based on my experience.
I’m not TRYING to be offensive to anyone, but it seems there are a whole lot of people who get highly offended when you tell them that you think their carrying unchambered is dumb AF and give reasons why.

Ah, this is why “discussions” like these are so fun; the non-stop circles…. :ROFLMAO:

Please explain the “working around children” angle?

It amazes me that "carrying one in the chamber" still generates 10 pages of discussion in the year of our Lord 2026. There's only one right answer here haha

When I first was issued ccw permit, the first week was no round in the chamber. After the first week, I realized to just carry with one in the chamber.

Recently I tried some moving target, that rolls at you on a ratchet pulley system, it’s supposed to come at you in 1.7 seconds? Rules were, OwB carry, draw with empty chamber, rack the slide, and shoot until threat was stopped. You are to imagine the target is someone running at you with a knife. I was only able to get 2 shots off on the abdomen on a ipsc target; but then I stopped shooting when the roller stopped. I should have kept shooting even while the cardboard was still falling; probably could have gotten more shots off. Pistol was G17.3 with holosun 509t. Would be nice to try with appendix carry with ccw pistols; testing with and without one in the chamber.

I would rather much prefer one in chamber though.

This was the system. https://mgmtargets.com/product/attack-target/?v=0b3b97fa6688
