Replacement hammer question re: SW model 69

So I have a model 69, and I like it. I had thought about a project of buying a spare factory hammer then bobbing it. I could then keep my original intact in the event I didn’t like it.

Google searches have led me different directions; some saying just use a generic L frame hammer and some saying the 69 needs its own hammer. I realize changing the mass of the hammer could potentially 🐓 things up, which is why I’d want a spare factory part to work from.

I know this is a long shot but was hoping someone on here would have some kind of insight.

An L frame should be an L frame as far as the dimensions of the firing pin hole in relation to the hammer pivot boss.
Get a regular L frame hammer and lay it side-by-side with your original hammer and see if they match up.
If they do, go try the hammer in the gun and see if it fits/functions/fires.
If it passes those tests, take the spur off and test fire again.

youre over thinking it. Just get the correct hammer for your L-frame gun. The model 69 is a modern release so you need to find a L-frame MIM firing pin in frame hammer. . It will most likely drop in without any work and feel almost the same. Bobbing it should not change ignition reliability unless you've also changed springs. Stock spring and strain screw fully tighten should give you no problems.

Theyre like 30 bucks on ebay. pick one up and try it. no harm done. relatively easy swap. release the tension on the spring. tap the side plate off (DON'T PRY) the hammer will come out and you won't need to touch anything else in the gun. reverse the order.
