$1299 is fair. I’d buy one for range use even though I have the Alloy Competitor and only compete in CO with my Shadow 2

Smith and Hunter are really going full send in the CA market. Really cool to see.

This thing felt like a $3k+ pistol, all day long, it will disrupt the market in its category IMO. There's not a whole like it out there right now.

I've been competing in Open exclusively, took 1st in Open at my last match, but would like to try some other Divisions. LO/CO/L10 are the likely candidates/interests, until if/when they can make something more catered to the Micro Compacts. I'd love to take my 43X out there, maybe even my 43, but it wouldn't make much sense in the current divisions.

I went to a local range grand opening yesterday in Elk Grove @River City Gun Exchange, called River City Gun Range. For those of you that may remember it used to be called The Gun Room many moons ago. Stop by and check out the completely refurbished facility and very impressively updated range.

Shout out to Don for taking the time and money to invest and bring that place back to better than it was when new years ago, Nick for helping do all of the things he had to do to help make it happen and all the regular guys like Steve, Sam, Gary & more.

They had a few vendors out. Far and away the most impressive of them was S&W, they brought out a TON of their lineup. The most impressive potential (IMO) from S&W to likely be hitting our roster, hopefully late this year according the the rep, is the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 HD Metal.

Apparently the official name is something like: Smith & Wesson Performance Center Military & Police 9, 2.0 Competitor Heavy Duty Metal or SWPCMP92CHDM for short

The Vortex rep was there and they set it up with a Defender XL, which was also nice.

I ran that thing like it owed me money (less than 0.25 split pace) and it was stacking them up in about a silver dollar sized group at whatever yards they had the target at (7-10 yards likely). Effortless, even without any dry fire ahead of time.

No comp or porting and it stayed extremely flat, dot didn't even almost leave the window. The grip texture is fairly aggressive, so if you have soft hands, probably not the one for you.

To say I'm excited to see it land on the roster is an understatement. This will be one heck of a solid option out of the box for LO, especially at the price point. This coming from a guy who has preferred Glocks to just about anything else for 20+ years.

I asked if they may be hosting USPSA or just competitions in general, the owners said they don’t know yet.

Unfortunately I highly doubt they’ll be doing USPSA. The Action Target setup is quite the investment and stray rounds/NDs from competitors would really F it up. In addition, the flooring looks super slick for easy brassing. Not good for Action Pistol, that’s another liability.

They have a great selection of inventory of all types. I wish their (second) business well. Hopefully I’m wrong and they do decide to host small matches.

I've been nudging The Gun Range for USPSA matches as well. They seem more concerned with the hazmat aspect of it more than anything else. More about having to clean the range etc. I've seen plenty of indoor matches, so I know it can be done, just don't know if we can get either of these guys to oblige.

Mmm I don’t know about 3k. I’m biased as hell but the Shadows and TSs are 1.3-2ish and the build quality feels another notch above the Metal HD.

Nice. LO and CO are the hottest right now.

Unfortunately the compacts and microcompacts are most of an IDPA thing. With how the rulebook and divisions are structured, it doesn’t make sense to field them like you said. You could be Sailer himself and you’d lose 10/10 times trying to compete with one.

I run my compact pistols (X-Macro, 43X with Afterburner + Ramjet) in IDPA (CCP division) regularly.

In terms of strictly competitive use, the VP9 Match is far inferior to the Smith HD Metal. The only positive is the legendary barrel accuracy.

The Smith Metal wins hands down otherwise. Way better aftermarket support from a deluge of companies. HK in the competitive world is a thing of the past. I argued that on Reddit and somebody actually linked me an HK Shooting Team YouTube video from…2016.

Eh, if i’m shooting a comp it’s going to be something like my shawdow 2. S&W striker guns do not work for me. Same with anything walther outside of the p99.

I just got back here from TX and after being able to buy and shoot anything for a decade the M&P stuff was never popular there. Strikers were Glock, Sig, Canik, SA everywhere. I’ve had multiple models of all of them but canik (p99 clone) plus M&P’s and I’ve only kept a sig and my HK’s.

I get it they are putting stuff on the roster. Still doesn’t change that they do not work for me. I like my VP9’s because I carried an SK for a long time and having a regular VP9 and a Match also just kept everything consistent. I’m not in a spot to compete right now, but if I go back to it it won’t be with a striker gun.

The trigger on this particular model was quite good. 2011 good? Obviously not, but better than many other Striker options out there. Springfield was also at this event and I shot a couple Echelons... not a fan at all.

I support S&W. They seem to be the company putting the most out there for us in California lately.

Glad they haven't completely shut us out from the cool stuff, only thing I hope they figure out soon is the AB1263 stuff as if anything breaks on my MP 2.0 I worry about having to send in the whole gun just because they won't mail me a spring, pin or other easily replaceable part.

Have the 2.0 std & love it after I swapped out trigger & springs. Wishful for a 10mm 2.0 metal version. Make it happen, S&W!

I doubt they’d bring a 10mm Metal since 10mm is already ultra niche but who knows, Smith going crazy recently.

I started sourcing small parts online to avoid any warranty issues, especially after S&W customer service told me the same about sending the firearm back. I would really like to be irritated with S&W, but this fine state we live in has brought all of this into our lives.

Damn that sucks to hear, guess unless its some huge repair that can't be fixed on the cheap I wont be using the warranty then, would suck to be out of your gun for however long they take all because you need something replaced that can be easily done at home.

That definitely seems to be the way some of the folks think.

They think it makes sense to have something like a Glock 43, with an Aim Surplus JTT barrel to have to compete in Open. a 6+1 Micro Pew to compete against purpose built 30+1 race guns with Major scoring. Makes perfect sense!
