The reason I cite Mas Ayoob as a person to listen to is that he sits as an expert witness on many self defense shootings. As such, he has much more knowledge than many others and I’ve been following him since about 1990. I’m not saying you differ than him (been too long since I read his books). Just why I like Mas and his advice.

I hunted ducks for years with an 870 then got a Beretta 303, very nice 12-gauge semi-auto and shot it for years. Last year I took out my 870 for fun on a dove hunt first dove bang got it aimed at 2nd and the gun went click I forgot to pump the action. No more pumps for me. I bought a Beretta A300 for shtf and home defense to go with my Glock 19, will never depend on a pump for the above reason. Took the 300 out to see how it runs and I could not outrun the gun, damn it is nice. I am sticking with the gun I am used to, no pistol grip for me.

Which one would you prefer for the 1301?

Although it doesn't address chokes, watch this video.
It may help with other things you should consider and ammo selection.

Last year I took out my 870 for fun on a dove hunt first dove bang got it aimed at 2nd and the gun went click I forgot to pump the action.

It's amazing how fast your body can un-learn years/decades of muscle memory.

I really have to concentrate when using a pump now.
Even then I may forget on the first pair of doubles on the skeet field.

I haven't fired one but I think the tavor shotgun might be a good contender for best personal defense shotgun. Semi auto and 3 rotating tubes. Something I'd look into, it has always interest me.

Yes. Seen one or 2 on here for about 900. One guy offered me one in a trade. Though it's one of the only modern guns that appeals to me I decided to keep my item.

$8 - $900 would be the number I would be comfortable with. Would still love to try one before buying it but man, what a world of hurt this weapon could deliver to target.

Too much going on for a HD defense weapon IMO.

You can see him fumbling around with it loosing count how many have been shot, not sure if there's any ammo left in each tube. stopping and taking a look down at it. Granted it's not a HD scenario. Just way too much going on when compared to a semi auto point and shoot.

I can't even imagine how heavy that is when it's fully loaded. I have my 590S loaded with mini shells and a side saddle and I really dislike the weight of it. So much so I replaced it with a 1301.

I’ve had a bunch of different shotguns over the years. Berettas have been reliable.

If I were to get a pump, I’d probably get a Benelli home defense model. Benellis hold up well.

Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol. Invest the rest of the money on ammo and training classes.

1301 Tactical if you have the extra cash. 99.9% of the users on here are not skilled enough to utilize the B-LINK system of the 1301

A300 snow goose is what I went with. My understanding with the patrol is you can’t swap barrels. I was able to buy a 19” barrel for the snow goose and swap it over without any isssus. It also comes with a milled RMR mount from factory.

There certainly are some new high capacity shotguns out there that had caught my eye. I don’t care for semi autos though I do now shoot a Browning A5 in trap league (developed the equivalent of tennis elbow from over use of my Mossberg 500 pump). The one that caught my eye was this double barrel pump. At this point, will just stick with what I know.

When I saw the Mossberg released a line of AR style safeties on their 500 shotguns, I thought it had to do with both the pistol grip limitations of reaching the tang plus folks who use ARs a lot would be familiar with that location. Thought it was a brilliant move on Mossberg’s part.
