Steel 7.62x39 drought

Russian ammo has been banned for years. 7.62x39 is a great round. Maybe after the war things will change. Keep a lookout for cheap AK’s popping up in the meantime. All ammo is expensive now anyway.

I saw the writing on the wall and sold my M70 about a year ago, used the proceeds to get a M90 in 5.56. I consolidated calibers for my plinkers, all 5.56/.223. Hopefully the madness ends at some point and I can get another in 7.62. There was word going around that Palmetto State Armory was looking into manufacturing USA made 7.62 but I haven't heard anything about it for a while.

I remember most bought aks and sks in the 90s becasue the ammo was so cheap.If you shopped around 75 bucks got you a case of 1k.

I have a 7.62x39 AR I built years ago. It loves Russian ammo. Far more accurate than an AK. It has a nitride/cryogenic ARB heavy barrel.

I stocked up on cheap steel ammo years ago. Paid about 20 cpr. I have Tula, various Wolf, Red Army and my favorite, Golden Tiger. That shoots about a 7" spread at 400 yards.

I still have several cases and probably enough to last the rest of my life. That rifle is more fun than my 5.56 versions.

I've been wondering why nobody produces it domestically; there's clearly a market for it, but I guess the numbers haven't been good enough.

there's a ton made domestically by federal, winchester, hornady etc. but it costs more than 556 so what's the point. It was only fun when it cost less than 9mm, AKs aren't very accurate so why would you want to pay 75 cents a round to mag dump. AKs are cool though, but I would just get one chambered in 556 these days.

my cz bren2 in 762 is fun to shoot, but man the steel case prices makes it worth buying brass and then saving the casings to reload.

reloading is definitely the way to go......

I really wanna try my hand at reloading; it won't be for the savings (but one day it might!) but more for the fun; I've always enjoyed salvaging and recycling! Heck, I just learned the other day that some folks reuse spent .22 brass to make .223 jackets!

I enjoy it but I've spent quite a bit of money on equipment to "save money". It makes sense if you shoot a lot though, I can't imagine buying factory ammo these days especially precision rifle rounds for 2+ dollars each. I load 5 calibers though so in a way the costs are spread 5 ways.... that's what I tell myself at least

I'm still riding this 8-9k - 7.62x39 non corrosive tula/wolf/gt boxed i bought back at the height of covid for 20cpr (when ppt 7.62x39 was averaging 60 cpr).

I did sell couple thousand to make my money back on early on, so about 6k for free.
