Thoughts on My Gun collection

I agree with the p322 as a good choice if you want to go with a 22. Optic ready (if you want to go that direction) and is also going to be closer to your compact or fullsize 9mm so from a handling/training standpoint it is a more similar manual of arms. P22s also have known issues with cracking and if you get one of those that has that issues, getting replacement parts is harder to do in California especially from Walther

I have a few 22s since that's what my wife likes to shoot, and the p322 gets chosen the most to take to the range. I have a p22 and Gsg 922 that never see the range now because the p322 is that much better.

Yeah all of guys mentioning the same issues is what scared me off from every buying one originally as i heard nothing but negative things about thier reliabilty due to both the ammo and the rimfire action of them. Why im still some what hesitant now. really i just want another way to shoot the massive amount of 22 i have without using my revolver which is why i want a semi.

Ive also looked into long guns chambered in 22 but the range i usually go to has a rule where long guns can only be shot at the outdoor range meaning i cant adjust or return the target at will like i could in doors

22 semis are fun, but definitely just be smart with whatever you decide on. There's always a chance you get a bad one even from a reputable manufacturer, but there are good options out there

For long guns, a 10/22 is going to be the most common and a ton of aftermarket support. I have a Winchester Xpert and Wildcat and really like them, but I know most would just go for the 10/22. There's plenty of other great options and they're all fun plinkers, but yeah tough if your range limits you

Sometimes that's the way these things happen. Enjoy what you have. That's the beauty of a hobby: you can do it your way. Personally, I think selling the whole thing to start over is an extreme suggestion. Not everyone wants a full-size 9 and an AR. That's the equivalent of saying everyone needs a Honda Civic or Toyota Camry. I currently have neither and I'm okay with that. Eventually I'll add both, sure. But I don't lose sleep over the fact that I don't have what all the replicants... I mean... "cool kids" have. This is my hobby, my way.

Well since I got mine I’ve been to the range atleast 1 month and have made dramatic progress since starting. Selling all them just to start over seems rather extreme?

Plus I don’t really see the need to get a full size when a compact gets the job the done and is easier to conceal.

I've caught myself several times already doing something I told myself I wouldn't just months ago, like buying more guns that serve similar purposes. I've told myself I wouldn't be interested in a 2011, but lately I've been looking at various options. I've told myself function is all that matters, but I've spent money on cosmetic bull. I never thought I'd bother getting a CCW, yet here I am with both a CCW and FFL03+COE. Right now I'm just interested in spending money on match fees and ammo, but I might decide to sell some stuff I just don't use, to help fund things I'm interested in (and that I might sell as well down the line) -- something else I never thought I'd do.

I guess my point is that, as your interest in your hobbies grow and evolve, you may come to change you mind on things you didn't think you would. And while this hobby is an expensive one, especially in this state, it's worth enjoying your life where you can. Just some food for thought for you, OP.

I also tend to lean towards the compact. But, a full size metal 9mm will be dramatically different than what you currently own.

If you are checking to see what your next steps might be, I agree with @southcoast_longgunner on the AR15.

Yeah its really just the range thing that makes me not want to get a long gun in 22 unless its like a hk 416 or something neat like that. Even when i got my rough rider the guys at the shop were hazing me over not just getting a ruger wrangler ( i did later and sold it to a friend shortly after) but ive literally never had a single issue of the bullet not firing with it. But being a single action 6 shot revolver it just goes slow.

Yeah rifle wise theres a couple ive seen that are in my price range. There's even a vintage m16 at a nearby gun shop that ive had my eye on. It had to be modified in order to be compliant which sucks but its still very cool looking im sorta just waiting for the right time to buy it cause it seems to just be sitting. Been there for a few months now

What’s up guys I wanted to share my gun collection so far and see what you guys think. Hoping to add a rifle later this year and probably a .22 semi pistol at some point soon.


My guns are a

1. S&W model 36 - dated between 1955-1962 (was in a house fire hence the ware)

2. Heritage Rough Rider 22.Lr (Had to get the extractor reattached after it blew off at the range otherwise I love it)

3. Ruger Max 9 (First ever Legal Pistol)

4. Taurus Gx2 (Iprotec Red laser)

5. Ruger LcP Max

6. Blue Line Solutions Remington 870 Clone (certain slugs miss way high)

You need a Beretta in there, a Glock 19, and a PDP or Echelon in the mix. Also an HK MP5 in .22lr. For fun

Many of us have been there at some point. Just up to you to prioritize what you want. Is there 1 thing you really want that is worth saving for? Or do you just want to buy for the sake of buying? Neither is necessarily wrong even though plenty will have strong opinions. It's up to you and what you want.

One thing that can help is finding a platform that can share magazines. This will help with the cost of magazines and maybe even ammo.

Glocks are obviously very popular so there are other pistols or PCCs that share magazines. By going that direction you can buy multiple guns but not have added expense of getting a bunch of different magazines and PCC can scratch the long gun itch without shooting more expensive 223/556. I did that with the M&P line and a couple of PCCs that use M&P mags just to simplify and "save money".

Whatever you decide, just have fun and do it safely!

I started out with a Maverick 88 combo home defense/field long barrel. I then purchased a sd9ve, 10/22 and Remington 783 bolt in .223. Everyone starts somewhere. I see your guns are all compact or sub compact which is great for ccw. I started off as a budget/ reliable gun guy then I went down the rabbit hole . If you actually enjoy shooting at the range I would recommend a 10/22 and HK 416 which you have mentioned. If you’re looking for a pistol I would go with a mark IV. P22, sr22, sig 322 are all kind of the same just preference. With any .22 semi auto pistols you gotta see what kind of ammo they like. Stocking up on .22 is always wise and you don’t feel to bad about blasting through 500 rds you bought for 35-40 bucks. I myself are really into sporting clays right now, if that interests you I would maybe think about getting a reliable semi auto or over under. Beretta a300s are pretty damn nice and smooth and really one of the best “affordable” semis to grab. Over unders are a bit pricer for good stuff but just keep scanning and research if you find anything in your budget. Full size pistols for many including myself are just more fun to shoot with. They shoot flatter, less recoil and just feel better. Can’t go wrong with a Glock 19, 17, 34 etc. berettas are nice, sig p226, Springfield echelon. I mean the list goes on. Last but not least I would say build an AR. Unfortunately ever since they did the whole transfer parts to FFL I haven’t built one since. Building an AR really isn’t as hard as you might think and it’s really a bit satisfying when you’ve assembled it knowing you did it and have a better understanding of your gun and where everything goes. Then you can make it your own customizing it. These are YOUR guns as long as you like them, who cares what anybody else thinks.

I was gonna buy a Phoenix arms hp22 from someone on the site a few months ago but the ghosted me

About the Phoenix (Bryco, Jennings): they have a reputation as unreliable. And they are, if you treat them like the throw-away pistols they're designed as. I inherited a J25 from my grandfather and couldn't get more than a round or two off without a malfunction. Since this was something that held a lot of sentimental value to me, I was unwilling to accept that answer. After tearing it apart and cleaning it very thoroughly, it now runs great, though it is very sensitive to dirt, carbon, etc. If you spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning and lubing it when you first get it and after every range trip, I suspect your results would be similar.

I went through a phase where I collected all the Ring of Fire pistols, looking for examples with box/papers.

They’re cool and quirky with an interesting history.

And yes, just look at her!! All of that style for $50?!? Best deal in town, haha!!

Dang it, @Boomhauer that's the .22 I want to go with my .25! $50? Hell, I wish I could find one for that. Every one I've seen has been $150. Hard pass.
