Voting... Will We Be Able To?

Just so you all can see this stuff happen in REAL life not just armchair debates. This link is an article from an actual county recorders office saying that 61,000 unverified voters were assessed using the federal SAVE database(what Trump is trying to enact) to confirm 58.5k of those voter. HOWEVER 137 there confirmed non citizens. That is in ARIZONA which has much stricter voting regulations than the state of CA. That’s an internal audit from one county.

This is an example of the system “working”. But also showing that yes non citizens do indeed vote. Even in states with more regulation than us.

FURTHERMORE. In case you miss it. Arizona has two types of voting. General ballots for confirmed citizens to vote for local and federal elections and federal only ballots for non confirmed citizens. Which means this audit was ONLY for voters using general ballots. The federal regulations to vote do not include citizenship verification but the state does require verification. Therefore they are not legally allowed to obstruct federal elections by verifying citizenship. PONDER that for a brief moment.
Why is citizenship more important for a county election than for a presidential election? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

You have no comment about the proven fraudulent voter registrations? Or my mail in ballot being used against my will?

Here’s a Reddit post of someone in Chicago who experienced similar:

I’m sorry your mail-in ballot was cast by someone else. When you move, you need to update your voter registration, or your ballot will be sent to the address where you are registered, even if you don’t live there anymore. You can cast a provisional ballot at your new polling place, but if a signed ballot has already been received from the place where you were registered, that’s the one that will be counted. Same thing if you went to your old polling place and voted in person then went to your new polling place and cast a provisional ballot because you weren't registered there. Only the ballot cast where you were registered would count. You can’t vote twice. Make sure to update your voter registration and Drivers License address when you move.

If someone else did mail in your ballot, then they committed a felony. Why anyone would risk jail time to cast one fraudulent ballot is beyond me. It seems like a lot to risk for little to gain. It should be easy to track down who did it, because they probably live at your old address. Did you report it? You mentioned that voter fraud is being investigated, and you believe the truth of voter fraud will eventually be revealed. If you have been a victim yourself, and you can pretty much prove someone stole your vote, then you should report it, because it would bolster the claim that this is common, and you might bring a criminal to justice. You might also have a civil claim against the person who signed your name on an official document and stole your vote, although I’m not sure about that. If someone stole my vote, I’d do everything I could to make them pay.

Anyway, this thread was about whether we will be able to vote in CA this year due to the executive order regarding the Postal Service, and now it’s strayed a long way off topic. I think we will have no problem voting here in November, but everyone should make a plan to vote, even if you do have to do it in person. And be sure to check your voter registration! If you have moved, update your registration!

137 out of 61,000 is statistically insignificant but also we do confirm voter registration and citizenship in California. We literally do have a system here, that's the lie that's being perpetrated that anyone and a dog can vote. Mistakes certainly happen but the dog was caught, the dog "voted" in a special election but during the general the registration was flagged as invalid. If there is legitimate fraud occurring we all want it to stop, let's start by finding that fraud though. Where are the statistics on the fraud? Why do you think there's significant fraud, where are the numbers that led you to think that? I'm seriously asking

It's ironic to even talk about voter fraud here because it would literally take millions of fraud votes to sway the elections, they aren't even close like Hilton will be lucky to get 30% in November. Meanwhile the President literally did engage in voter fraud in Georgia, the charges only dropped because he became President again and the guy that took over the case said there was no precedent for a sitting President to appear before a state court, not that he wasn't guilty. The phone call was recorded, he actually did the thing and was trying to get the governor to "find more votes".

I’m clearly wasting my time

You and me both, brother!

On topic: We will be able to vote in CA in November. I encourage everyone to do so. Make sure you are registered, and have a plan for voting. It’s your right, so don’t let anyone take it away or discourage you from exercising your right. It’s also a civic virtue, which is something that is fading in our country. I encourage everyone to take part in civic life. Try to care about what is going on around you and participate in the governance of the country and community in which you live.

Fulcrum, signing off.

You actually just check these two boxes, select mail in ballot, and if there’s no signature in the DMV record attached to your name you can print a signature form to mail in. After which you will receive your ballot

No DL or SSN required. You’re wrong.

I swear so many people on this site are trying to gamify real issues. Just elbows deep in cognitive bias. You could spoon feed them what’s really going on and they just go “hah yeah if I was stupid like you I’d believe that”

Why don’t you try it for yourself?

Go request a ballot for your dog, when the signature form comes in? Just put an X, and send it back.

If you don’t get a ballot for your dog in November I’ll Venmo you $5k

Just try it bro and prove me wrong

I keep saying I’m done and getting pulled back, because I can’t stop myself from correcting misinformation! Lol

You do need proof of residency and proof of citizenship to vote in California. Your drivers license can prove your residency, but not necessarily your citizenship, unless it’s a Real ID. And your Social Security number can prove your citizenship, but not your residency. There are other documents that can be used to prove residency and citizenship as well. Look at the screenshot you posted. It says right there you will be asked for proof if you try to vote without providing these two numbers online. So if you show up to vote, and you haven’t done it yet, you will be asked for documents, either DL or SS card, or things like passports for citizenship or utility bills for residence, among other types of documents. If you send back a mail in ballot and haven’t done it yet, you will be asked to go in and provide documents before your ballot can be counted. I think you are projecting confirmation bias on others while posting misinformation you believe because of your own biases.

I would caution against encouraging others to attempt fraud by registering their dog to vote! Don’t offer people money to commit fraud.

Also, be sure you are only voting once and voting in the state where you reside. I think earlier you said you don’t vote in CA anymore, and you vote in another state. Where do you reside? That’s where you vote. If you do reside in CA but vote in another state, how do you do it? Mail-in ballot? Or do you travel back there to vote? Or do you reside there and not here? In which case, you didn’t really give up on voting here. You aren’t eligible to vote here. When you do figure out where you are eligible to vote and register in that state, it would be good to be sure you cancel your registration in the other state, so you aren’t registered in two states. That’s one of the things people who are convinced of widespread voter fraud point to. Look! People are registered to vote in two states! Purge the rolls! You don’t want to get purged or contribute to the false impression of voter fraud.

The amount of misinformation in this thread is really astounding. And I don't have the two hours to correct it today.

The really interesting thing is that all the misinformation comes from one side.

To me, this is the real kind of fraud that could change results. Individual vote fraud is insignificant. It should not be allowed, and it should be prosecuted, but it’s not going to change election results. The real danger is the one we saw in 2020 and January 2021, wher we had conspiracies to throw out legitimate votes or “find” votes and change the results. And remember, the groundwork for that effort was laid during the 2020 campaign, with these same kinds of claims that mail-in voting is inherently fraudulent. Then that was used as a pretext for the later effort to fraudulently steal the election. The same thing is happening now. I think that is the deeper underlying reason for these executive orders, to lay the groundwork and begin the narrative that this is a “rigged” election. Then it will be used later to attempt to toss out legal votes or mess with vote certifications. I’ve been saying that I believe we will be able to vote in CA in November. I do believe that, and I encourage everyone to vote. But I’m not sure what will happen after that, and I fear it will be another 2020-style fraud attempt.

Why does it take California a month to count the votes?

They used to have the count done in time for next day newspaper headlines, now it’s a month?

AFAIK there is no requirement in California to show ID to register to vote. You must affirm under perjury that you are being truthful on the form.

This state does not want voter ID. There is an initiative on the November ballot to codify this into state law but the entire democrat super majority here is fighting it.

They do not want voter ID here. Most of us can figure out why.

The same people that want no ID and anyone to be able to vote... also want strict multiple ID checks and background check, huge amount of rules and regs with waiting period and purchase restrictions on your right to bear arms.

Funny how that works huh? Guess it was never actually about rights.

Np, you must prove CA residency and US citizenship with documentation to register. Look back through the thread.

Call the registar of voters in your county. No ID is required. You do need to "check a box" stating you are a US citizen and not a prohibited felon. Lying on the registration form is perjury.

If ID was already required here, why is there a ballot initiative this November to require it here?

Because it's not required, of course. No documentation at all is required. You can just lie.

I don't mail in my ballot and I don't drop it off. I walk into the polling place and cast my vote in person. This is the way all able-bodied Americans did it in the old days. The only ones who did it differently were deployed soldiers, businessmen who had to be out of town, the elderly, the infirm, and those who couldn't get their lazy asses off the couch. Times have changed, but I have not. I'll continue to vote at the polling place for as long as I'm able.
This and show a god damn ID. Don’t point at a name on a list and say “that’s me”. Get off your ass, go down and vote, especially with early voting. You can’t do that because you’re deployed or infirmed the state can work something out. Mail in for everyone, F-, no.

Here's some information from SoS of CA website. I don't think it's as black and white as you claim.

Per: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/voter-registration

Qualifications to Register to Vote

To register to vote in California, you must be:
  1. A United States citizen and a resident of California (for information on voters in the military or overseas, please see Military and Overseas Voters),
  2. 18 years old or older on Election Day,
  3. Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony (for more information, please see Voting Rights Restored: Persons with a Prior Felony Conviction), and
  4. Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court (for more information, please see Voting Rights: Persons Subject to Conservatorship).
Further:

Voter Registration Identification Requirements

You must provide:

  • A California Driver's License or state ID number, or
  • The last four digits of your Social Security Number (SSN) (if you do not have a CA ID).
If you don't have either, you can still register. You'll be assigned a unique identifier to validate your registration.

Note: To get a CA DL, you DO NOT need to provide proof of citizenship. To get an SSN you do. So a non-citizen could use a DL to register.

So to REGISTER to vote, pretty much anyone can. The question is whether or not they get their vote counted if their qualifying credentials are invalid. I'm not sure what this "validate your registration" means here, especially if you succeed in receiving a mail-in ballot from submitting online, there's no polling place where you have to verify yourself if you didn't present the identification requirements as far as I can tell, so the onus is on the ballot processing to catch it.

Overall it seems possible to register to vote if you're not a citizen, you can get a mail-in ballot I would argue if you don't have the proper requirements, and it looks like you can even mail in a ballot if you wanted too. There should be checks and validations on the other end to prevent the vote from counting, but clearly it looks like it can and does, to some degree, get through.

I'm a starch proponent for mail-in voting and frictionless voting options but to me, it also seems we have some gaps that can allow bad actors or mistakes to occur, which regardless of your position, is not good for the integraty of the voting system. Threats of breaking the law don't seem enough to me either.

You must PROVIDE the CA DL number and last 4 digits of the SSN when you register. If you don't, then you get a unique identifier that officials will either validate through other records, or you will be required to SHOW the docs at the polls, or before your ballot is counted. So you may be right that you do not need to SHOW them to register, if that's what you mean, but you do need to PROVIDE them, or your vote will not be counted. And as long as you have PROVIDED them when you registered, you do not need to SHOW them at the polls. I'm not sure if we are miscommunicating based on the exact words or what. And I'm not getting what kind of fraud you guys think is happening. Is it that you think someone is registering to vote using someone else's identity? I don't think it's happening.

Here is how the ID requirements work: https://elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov/pdfs/trusted-info/trusted-info-voter-id-reg-requirements.pdf
