Weirdest: Turners Kearny Mesa

Met up for a PPT. It was when the Glock 42 and 43 first came out. The buyer said he had a 42 and was carrying it and asked the employee if he could show me at the gun counter. The employee said "no" and that he shouldn't have the gun in the store either way. After the PPT he waited and said "follow me to my car". He took the pistol out, removed the mag and live round and handed me the gun. I safely handled it and was surprised at how small it was and stated I didn't like that my pinky didn't fit on the grip. He then loaded the extra round back in, handed me the mag and said "try it with the mag in it". Nice gesture but this guy handed me his loaded carry gun right in the parking lot in front of Turners..

Worst: Discount Gun Mart in Santee

Bought a Brand New Ruger 10/22 and on pick up had to deal with LARGE MARG.. (if you know, you know) She was very unpleasant to deal with, but whatever. Before I left, she aggressively tried to wrap the cable lock a couple times around the ejection port and magwell and in doing so "CHIPPED" the finish on the receiver. The gun was not "brand new" after she did that, still bugs me to this day.

Can anyone top either of those? Let's hear what you got!

Turners back in the day and making me wait 11 days, three checks, manager walked me out the door to “be safe”. Never dealt with a Turners again for anything but fishing and ammo. Now that i’m back i’ll just skip turners all together.

I hear you, I've said I'll never go to Turners again myself.

But I live just a couple miles from one so it's convenient. If you get there 10 min's before that open and are the first ones in the door, you can get out of there in a reasonable amount of time.

I also had a guy take me out to his car in the parking lot to show me something, and I was surprised how small it was in my hand, but that's a story for a different forum.

Mentioned it here recently, but I had a guy hand a loaded and chambered pistol to me during a ppt in a store. Thank God I'm not a total dummy, and checked it myself. Mildly entertaining in retrospect for the lgs employee's reaction of being freaked out and pissed but holding it together, and me having to go dump a handful of 9mm in my car.

First sentence, hilarious!

The actual transaction, scary!!

You got me beat on this one, thanks for sharing

I wish we lived in a world that deserved the kind of trust these people have in strangers to be handing them loaded guns :(

I don’t have any personal stories to share, but I remember seeing a video on reddit not too long ago of someone clearing a gun at the counter, and being horrified at the roaches that came skittering out

A couple years ago at Turners Kearney Mesa, the guy I was buying a gun from didn't want me to inspect the gun in the parking lot, and insisted we take it inside. I knew that meant I wouldn't really get to inspect it, but whatever, it was a used gun anyways.

The Turner's employee at the counter flagged me when he was looking at the pistol, literally pointed at my face sideways. He then proceeded to tell me it wasn't a big deal when I said "whoa" and moved my head, and then ejected a round from the chamber and discovered the gun was loaded.

He didn't even acknowledge it or apologize, just paused with a dumb look on his face and then tried to pretend it didn't happen.

Nothing quite like having a pompous employee point a loaded gun at your face and give you grief for it.

Wasn't a PPT unfortunately but while working at a gun shop, had a guy show up on a bike with an AR in his backpack (taken apart in two), claimed it was his "cousin's" and he took it from him due to psychological issues, and wanted to sell it to us. Told him we needed his ID in order to log it in and he said he doesn't have it with him so he had to come back. When he shows up, he is on his bike again and with another dude. When it's his turn to be helped and addresses again why he's here, we ask for his ID again......he tells his buddy to bring out his ID. We told him that we needed the one that is selling it and he says again that it's not his and it's his cousin's, but from the way he acted it was all kinds of suspicious

WTF!

I can't believe these loaded guns in the store stories.. it's frightening. I don't get how someone could be so careless.

But I guess the take away is that, that person doesn't have the gun anymore.

This wasn't me and it wasn't a PPT either but I witnessed it. (and it's a real weird one too)

At the cashier, not the gun counter. The guy in front of me had a pistol and said he was a prohibited person and needed to forfeit the gun. The cashier said "we can't do that and you need to leave the store". The guy behind me says "heck I'll buy it" and the cashier said "no, you need to leave the store immediately or I'll have to call the police". The one guy looked at the other an nodded and they both left the store.

Sometimes crazy stuff just happens..

Duuuuude we had an idiot call us and legitimately tell us that he just got out of prison as a felon and wanted to know if he could still get a gun🤣

Turners nowaday are chill, fast, and smooth, at least in socal.

Where's the "nowaday" Turners??

I've never heard any of those statements made about a Turners, ever..

I do agree that if you get there early and are literally the first people in the door they can usually get the PPT done in a decent amount of time.

Kinda heartwarming how boomers had enough social trust to hand each other loaded handguns, nothing bad happened back in the old days

Back in the day, when people were fighting to move to California. My very first private party transaction was in the parking lot of a Tower Records at 6am. I had found a 3x5 card listing on the cork board of On-Target in Mission Viejo. After agreeing to meet, we literally drove up driver doors facing, he handed me an Sig 226 and I handed him a few Benjamins. Boy those were different times.

I have riflegear down the street. I have been giving them my money since they opened and did the same thing in TX. I just go there. They also order stuff for me without question. So it’s a win win.

*cleaned up since not multi tasking anymore.

Still like that in free America.

Turner's in Lake Forest is actually pretty good and fast for the most part. Will take longer than other places because of the extra Turner's specific paperwork and the fact they fill out so much by hand still. Sold 3 firearms this week there and it took 35 minutes which is faster than other Turner's I've been in for 1 firearm

They have gotten better. But yeah, it will take a little longer at Turners than a regular LGS.

When there was panic buying going on it took almost 3 hours at the San Marcos Turners to complete a PPT..

I also use Turner's Lake Forest to purchase guns and do PPT's. Most of those guys are knowledgeable and fast. I guess that's an outlier for most Turners.
