Weirdest, Worst or Wildest PPT you've even done? - I'll start

Weirdest: Turners Kearny Mesa

Met up for a PPT. It was when the Glock 42 and 43 first came out. The buyer said he had a 42 and was carrying it and asked the employee if he could show me at the gun counter. The employee said "no" and that he shouldn't have the gun in the store either way. After the PPT he waited and said "follow me to my car". He took the pistol out, removed the mag and live round and handed me the gun. I safely handled it and was surprised at how small it was and stated I didn't like that my pinky didn't fit on the grip. He then loaded the extra round back in, handed me the mag and said "try it with the mag in it". Nice gesture but this guy handed me his loaded carry gun right in the parking lot in front of Turners..

Worst: Discount Gun Mart in Santee

Bought a Brand New Ruger 10/22 and on pick up had to deal with LARGE MARG.. (if you know, you know) She was very unpleasant to deal with, but whatever. Before I left, she aggressively tried to wrap the cable lock a couple times around the ejection port and mag slot and in doing so "CHIPPED" the finish on the receiver. The gun was not "brand new" after she did that, still bugs me to this day.

Can anyone top either of those? Let's hear what you got!

Matt
I picked up a Glock 19 for 400 in January 2025. (couldn’t afford not to!!) The seller excitedly told me he’s selling everything he can to invest in the $TRUMP meme coin.

Later that year, Gavin Newsom banned glocks and we all know what happened to used glock prices. The trump coin is down like 99% i think. 😂

Really??

I didn't see 1 Glock in 2025 offered for $400 bucks..

Yeah, listings like that get snapped up pretty quickly by folks like me who compulsively refresh our caguns, calguns, and armslist bookmarked searches an obscene amount of times per day!

I hear ya, timing is everything

Nice catch

Matt

Where's the "nowaday" Turners??

I've never heard any of those statements made about a Turners, ever..

I do agree that if you get there early and are literally the first people in the door they can usually get the PPT done in a decent amount of time.

Matt
I have nothing bad to say about Turners Pasadena. Always good experience

Several years ago, I saw a listing on CalGuns for a ‘BNIB Benelli M1 Super 90’ that had the factory breacher barrel. IIRC, the seller was asking $800 or so.

I always wanted my own M1 Super 90 and immediately posted “I’ll take it” and we agreed to meet.

I’m waiting inside the LGS and in walks the seller holding the M1. Not in a case. They just walked down the street from the parking lot and into the store holding the M1.

The first thing I said was, “Where’s the box?”

Seller: There’s no box
Me: Your ad said BNIB
Seller: Well…it’s like new?
Me (after looking it over): It’s not brand new. (It was obviously used. Not trashed, but used)
Seller: It works like new?
Me: My brother, BNIB means like that (as I point to a brand new gun sitting in a box on the counter)
Seller: Oh…what now?
Me: I’ll give you $500 for it
Seller: OK, deal

And that’s how I got a Benelli M1 Super 90 w/breacher barrel for $500, haha!!

A couple years ago at Turners Kearney Mesa, the guy I was buying a gun from didn't want me to inspect the gun in the parking lot, and insisted we take it inside. I knew that meant I wouldn't really get to inspect it, but whatever, it was a used gun anyways.

The Turner's employee at the counter flagged me when he was looking at the pistol, literally pointed at my face sideways. He then proceeded to tell me it wasn't a big deal when I said "whoa" and moved my head, and then ejected a round from the chamber and discovered the gun was loaded.

He didn't even acknowledge it or apologize, just paused with a dumb look on his face and then tried to pretend it didn't happen.

Nothing quite like having a pompous employee point a loaded gun at your face and give you grief for it.
Where are you guys doing transfers that they won’t let you inspect the firearm? I’d never do business there again. Every PPT I’ve done has been at the counter and the buyer has been able to do whatever inspection they like.

He's stating the "seller" would not let him inspect the gun before going in the store.

Had that happen to me twice and told the seller/trader to kick rocks both times.

Some people are just retarded

I know, that’s what I’m saying. I wouldn’t let a buyer inspect a gun in the parking lot either. It should be done inside the FFL at the counter after they have cleared the gun and checked it in.

But why?

Only case I’ve run into was Turdners in Signal Hill where the manager was upset I hadn’t inspected the firearm outside before coming in… since you know, they babysit you anytime you’re handling an unloaded gun then take it and put it behind the counter while paperwork is done like you’re a child.

Mostly because every FFL I’ve dealt with around here is cool with inspection being done at the counter. I don’t know if it’s a Bay Area/socal thing that they dont. I’ve also never done a PPT at a sportsman’s or turners and probably wouldn’t.

Parking lots are just all kinds of sketch. Someone sees you handling a gun and calls 911. The buyer wants to check out the sights and starts flagging people. Getting handed a loaded gun. Someone walking away with it… would rather have a 4k video of them inside the FFL.

Yeah I don't even think thats legal I would never do that. If the FFL won't let you take 30 seconds to check it out then don't use those guys

I do a lot of PPT's. Always interesting to meet new folks. Some boomers/fuds. Some kids (18 year olds). Lots of LEO's/Service members. Widows. People from all different walks of life. Its always weird purchasing from strangers and doing the initial meet & greet.

By far the most unsettling for me are the PPTs were the individual clearly has mental issues they are working through.

One time I did a PPT with a genuine hypocondriac.

Years ago I sold off a 1911 and 500 rounds of unboxed 45acp ammo.

Guy wanted to confirm that it was, in fact, the correct number of rounds offered (they were in 5 ziplock bags enclosed in a larger ziplock bag).

"Mind if I confirm? My ride is right over there."

(*Points to Richard Ramirez NightStalker Rape Van)

Woke up bloodied in an alley in downtown Santa Ana with my pants around my ankles.

I watched him count every round on the carpeted floor of his van. Took about 20 minutes.

Finished the transfer and went home to take a cold shower.

Extremely Fuddilicous LGS, met the seller to purchase an AR with a CompMag installed in it. Counter guy said it's illegal we have to remove the grip. I had to explain it's a fixed mag and 100% legal in it's current configuration. I made him try and remove the mag, lol. After struggling with it, he took it in the back and came back 5 minutes later and said 'OK'. 🤦🏼‍♂️
