I hate Reddit. Filled with mostly left wing lunatics and people obsessed with sex. Only reason I’m there now is to talk about finances and sell items. I keep myself out of politics and social issues. Absolute chaos and I hope the site is hacked and crumbles.

Yes VPN and Proxy Servers can be helpful in hiding your originating IP address. However there are a multitude of other more sophisticated and evolved ways to identify your digital footprint and that you've had an account on the site before.

What are some of those more sophisticated ways, if you don't mind sharing? You don't have to go into a lot of details. If you give me some names or methods, I can do my own research, thanks.

Unfortunately, we can’t share that here. The most recent issues, scammers got through using the methods you mentioned but we’ve put additional checks in place. We’re seeing less issues now. It’s always a cat and mouse game with bad actors so it’s not good for us to say too much. There’s a lot of things we do here and recently had even more because of the Calguns issues. That threw us a curveball but it seems like we got a handle on it and the member base is more aware (for now). We kept it clean for awhile and people let their guard down. We have more tools all across the board once we learned our lesson. We’re a big target these days.

It's not really rocket science or NSA level technology as much some might want you to believe. They use Cloudflare, basically a reverse proxy positioned between the end user and the website's origin server. Cloudflare's service includes numerous security features including: Autonomous DDoS Mitigation, Page Shield, Origin Shielding, Turnstile which is an invisible CAPTCHA alternative, AI powered bot management which includes behavioral analysis, machine learning and JA3 fingerprinting, Ephemeral IDs, etc.

Then there is browser fingerprinting, I don't care enough to investigate what this site does and doesn't do but there is: Canvas Fingerprinting, Font and Plugin enumeration, WebGL and GPU fingerprinting, Hardware and performance signals, Behavioral fingerprinting and Audio fingerprinting.

There are a number of outstanding anti-fingerprinting and fingerprint spoofing plugins available for chromium based and Mozilla browsers. Anyone concerned about their privacy and security should be using a secure browser like Brave and a combination of additional ad blocking and fingerprint spoofing plugins.

Reddit has become quite hostile. I've used it for close to a decade. And I even was offered the option to buy stock during their IPO. They only offered that to people who mod subs, and have a high reputation. And I did buy some. At $34 a share, it was instant free profit.

But I digress. Over the last year, I had that account permabanned. I opened another, and it got permabanned after about 6 months. The next was within a couple of weeks. After that, I didnt bother, and I only peruse it passively. I no longer have, or am trying to create a new account. The mods are hyper aggressive now. And Reddit will just ban your account just for you reporting another persons post, even if done in good faith. So I dont know what their current end goal is. But its no longer the site it was even just a couple of years ago.

This sums up the entire state of California. The majority of voters vote for personality over policy, and then complain when their elected politicians violate their rights, tax them exorbitantly, and focus their efforts and resources on seemingly everyone and everything other than the lives of the actual California citizens they were elected to serve. Virtue signaling has a very real cost, but they’re too afraid of what other people in their circles will think of them if they vote for or otherwise support anyone else.

I would zoom out a bit and say this isn’t just California, but everywhere. I don’t think anyone is happy and not complaining right now.

Going public is the WORST decision a company can make for its consumers. Entification/platform decay.
