What hammer fired handgun would you buy for around $1,000

Getting back in to hand guns after mostly shooting my ARs for the last year. I own only striker fired handguns at the moment and want something else for a change. My only experience with hammer fired guns are when I was younger shooting my Dad's 1911. I'd love a kimber 2k11 but I don't want to spend the nearly 3k take home price. What are your guys suggestions for something around $1k?

I just got a p226 and it is very nice but a bit annoying because you cant cut the California slides for an optic so if you want that you have to buy a precut slide and barrel. Beretta 92 also has the same issue with being hard to cut for an optic but it is possible it's just expensive. The Cz SPO1 is about 10oz heavier with a steel vs aluminum frame and has a bit better aftermarket support for triggers and grips and magwells. You can also convert it to single action vs da/sa. The only other hammer fired stuff around 1k would be 9mm 1911s which could also be cool but I would lean towards the first two. Sp01 is the best shooter of all of these

good point I forgot to mention I would want a dot on it. I'm not really concerned about cowitnessing with irons since it will just be a range toy

A cz is a decent option then, if you are ok with running the DPP footprint which would be a delta point pro or vortex XL/ST you can get it cut by vigilante arms for under 200. If you want other optics like RMR its trickier because it needs a plate due to the width of the slide which adds some cost. The CZ 75s are also great, the SPO1 essentially just has a heavier rail which adds weight.

Dot capable hammer fired for around $1k might take some time to find. If you can find a good deal on a PX4 & then have it milled... probably your best bet.

Find me one for around $1k and I’ll get it :)
I did actually write to Sig a few months ago asking why they keep putting the LCI on the top of the slide which requires a different barrel vs on the extractor, I also offered to help them bring the 226x here . They never wrote back though

$1k Out the door brand new from a dealer? 92FS or a PX4 since Beretta is having their $100 rebate promo going on. But like others have mentioned it's kind of annoying / expensive to get them milled though.

Nate Wager does an amazing job milling slides.

92FS probably the worst option considering the expense and jankiness with milling for a red dot. He’s gonna be well over a grand all in

Cheapest and best way is to probably pickup a used p226 for like $600 and buy an optic ready slide
